Anyone ever hear this guys story? Just as bad as Chuvalo's post boxing life, and that's saying something. After his loss to Foreman he started using steroids hard. Basically, he eventually lost both of his legs completely. He went from being 6'6 to about 4 feet tall. A horror story, to say the least. Good article on it - http://www.thesweetscience.com/boxing-article/1928/steroids-kayoed-bob-hazelton/ Weird though... Once he started on the steroids and gained a few dozen pounds of muscle, his KO record was pretty insane. Basically almost every one of his 19 wins was a KO. Not TKO's, pure KO's. Steroids are funny like that. Hmm.
The only time I seen him fight, was when he fought Foreman. This was the undercard to the Sonny Liston-Leotis Martin fight.Seems like at the time the announcer said Bob{Kid}Hazleton was 6 foot eight, and weighed in at 184 pounds.Didn't hear a thing about this guy after that fight. But,I remember him as a very skinny heavyweight when he fought Foreman.
Fascinating. Steroids were widely available to boxers in the 70's, then. I wonder how many other boxers took advantage of the opportunity...
But it's a bit of a "scare story" really. Loads of guys take anabolic steroids and dont "lose both legs" ! I've known loads of guys who take or have taken steroids. You know, it's a bit life 1950s "Reefers made me a sex beast" anti-marijuana stories. Whatever happened to Hazelton is tragic, but it's not typical of steroid use, and there's probably a lot more to it than steroid abuse.
I agree. You have to understand how badly he abused the ****ing things, anyway. He was literally taking several times the dose you'd take for a three week cycle, a short one.
