Right..no footage, and from all that I've read of Montgomery, he's definitely not in the top ten..a good fighter, but not top 10.

Ah, Bob Montgomery, the old Philly Bobcat...A great body puncher who was
part of the great quartet of Ike Williams, Beau Jack, Sammy Angott and
the Bobcat himself. Each one a SURE lightweight champion today, no doubt. I saw him several times with my dad at MSG. Against Beau Jack
fighting for a War Bond Drive in 1943, koing the classy Allie Stolz, and
in a tremendous upset being flattened by the best left-hooker I ever saw, Al [Bummy]Davis in 1 rd in 1944. We in the crowd went nuts as Davis was a 10-1 underdog.
Bob Montgomery fought everyone and anyone. For example :
On Jan,25,1944 kod the great Ike Williams ,12 rds.
Feb 18,1944 was kod by Al Davis 1 rd
March 3, 1944, won title from Beau Jack in 15 rds.
April 28,1944 beat Joey Peralta 10 rds
Aug,4,1944 lost to Beau Jack ,10 rds.
5 tough bouts in several months. Against tough, tough opposition.
    Listening, Floyd Mayweather ?

    Benny Leonard
    Ike Williams
    Roberto Duran
    Joe Gans
    Pernell Whitaker
    Carlos Ortiz
    Henry Armstrong
    Barney Ross
    Tony Canzoneri

These 9 names definitely belongs the top 10 in my opinion.....

Now, the number 10 could be :

Lou Ambers (strong name for the Top 10)
    Packy McFarland
    Angott
    Arguello
    Ismael Laguna
    Battling Nelson
    Sammy Mandell
    Montgomery

I don´t know nothing about Jack McAuliffe.....

    Can't rank him above McFarland.

Lightweight might be the deepest division. Sorry Bob.

Well.....He isn´t a top 10 for me as well, if I make a list.....Lou Ambers would be my number 10......

I can see him as a greater LW than Arguello though.....don´t know if this is a unpopular opinion but I think a case can be made....

He was only a lightweight for a short time but I think Chavez is a contender for that top 10 as well.

    A great lightweight no doubt.

This division is stacked though since there are so many guys on a similar level.

His resume isn't enough to make him a standout in my opinion (despite me being slightly naive on him but with time i'll come to change my opinion) and a lack of footage stops his skillset making him a standout. He didn't hold the crown for a huge amount of time neither.

I certainly think he should rank beyond angott for whatever that's worth.

Barney Ross can not be considered a great lightweight, as he never defended his lightweight title. He fought as a Jr. Wel. and Welterweight. Pian and Winch, his managers had Davey Day his stablemate, and Great lightweigth Boxer protecting Barney's Lightweight title. Davey was Barney's policeman and first assistant Lightweight Champion, if you wanted a match with Barney, you would have to first get pass Davey, with the exception of Armstrong, making it a monster gate that it generated.
