Not top ten , but on a given night he would be competitive with any light weight.

Great thread and a great great fighter. Shame there is no footage but if someone had him #10 with the other greats I wouldn't complain.

Very weird how he and Willie Joyce never crossed paths. Were they under the same management or something? Everyone basically fought everyone else.

He was rated at/near the Top 10 when RING did a Top 20 all time lightweights list back in 2000. Maybe a bit high, but he's in the Top 20 for sure.

I love that era of boxing, Burt! Talk about strength in depth. How do you rate Jimmy Carter?

The most powerful lefthook from a little man I ever saw Louis. Thrown from an orthodox style with his left hand in front of him. As a youngster I lived near him. I once saw Bummy hit a man with a lefthook that flipped the man in a back somersault out cold...Never saw that since...He became hated in New York because he was the ONLY man ever to ko the great Tony Canzoneri in Canzi's last bout...Canzoneri was an old man who had 175 tough bouts against everyone before Bummy retired him in 1939...

I think this sentiment is FACT for all divisions and dozens & dozens of great fighters...

making lists is all but impossible, a good measure sure, but 100% accurate, impossible.

dozens of GREAT fighters for every division is the reality!
