This content is protected 1. Two-sided grappling and slugging. Murphy. 3. More of the same. Just slugging. Not too glamorous nor too dramatic, but awkward. LaMotta had a furious rally in the final minute. LaMotta. 5. LaMotta is more reserved this round, and focuses on protecting his aching right side (from all Murphy's body blows). Murphy chopping LaMotta down with a lot of uppercuts to the head. LaMotta's punches began to lack meaning, although he remained the aggressor. Even. 7. The battling continued head-to-head. LaMotta rallied once again. LaMotta Murphy wins by RTD. Verdict: I personally don't get much enjoyment out of these types of fights with lots of condensed rounds and just as many missing rounds as supplied rounds. However, this was still an action-filled match, though not too dramatic, glamorous, or brilliant. It's up to you what you want to do for the next 12 minutes.
I don't know if the condensed rounds is the problem. There just isn't much style shown here. Two guys literally toe to toe with little defense. As the much harder puncher, Murphy ended up cutting LaMotta up, which won him the fight. It didn't convince me he really was better, and they would have a rematch with a different result. Murphy was a big puncher, with KO wins over Milo Savage, Eddie Cotton, Lloyd Marshall, Dan Bucceroni, and Danny Nardico, as well as LaMotta. But he was helpless against top boxers and lost badly to Harry Matthews and Joey Maxim. Murphy was built by the IBC into a shot at Maxim's title after losing haplessly to Matthews, who was not under IBC contract. Considering the Fox fight, one has to wonder about LaMotta just standing in one place and fighting Murphy's fight. The win vaulted Murphy into the Maxim match. On the other hand, I don't know if LaMotta was up to fighting any other way. Still he was able to jab Robinson, and I wonder why he didn't use the jab to try to keep Murphy off. I will be interested if their second fight is on the agenda. It was a good one and I would like to see if Jake changed his strategy. "not too dramatic, glamorous, or brilliant" To say the least. I might be unique, but I enjoy skillful boxing more than this sort of thing. Very funny when the announcer says no one had seen such fast punching while the film was running two to three times faster than proper speed. And whatever, the announcer noting the two men had "thrown science to the wind" summed up the fight.
Murphy wins every time, Jake was at the end of his career, and his peak years were often against Welter cum Middles. Naturally bigger guy would more often than not account for Jake.
You do know the second fight in its entirety is easily seen right? Where Jake WINS. Fairly easily. You know after Robby he lost 3 fights then reversed the result each time? He was used up, but...
yes you are right, my bad, but Jake was finished and his only fights were at L-HW at this point and it was No Picnic at this late stage of his career, carrying on too long at that point would have added up to a lot of 'negatives' in decisions and health. I believe Jake knew that and that's why it was over. a great career at some point is worth preserving.
So sad not to see him and Rob and Kid and etc in their prime. It is like seeing Duran only from post Leonard on when his style was completely diff and the ultraagression gone. We would have no idea of the style speed fury and etc of Roberto's lightweight & welter days. Just a semi aggressive waiting counter puncher who does well in mixups. I have the feeling the same is true w/ LaMotta.
I though Jake looked sluggish in this fight, too bad the supermiddleweight division wasn't around because LaMotta had no business at 175.
I don't know if this first quote was meant for me, but if you think I'm an *******, why do you read my posts? You must enjoy them is the conclusion I reach.
You must be stupid on top of everything else. Kind of sssllloooowwww? I had in quotes the post I was talking to ass. Leave me alone & go cry to someone else for attention Narcissis. Pathetic man.
Ok, but saying that to thistle was uncalled for at any rate. Are you not smart enough to speak for yourself? You must borrow lines from CST80 to express yourself?
It is interesting that these two men are almost exactly the same age. Jake was born on July 10, 1922. Murphy on July 22, 1922. One is on the way up and one supposedly on the way down.
I really liked that fight! An very underrated LWH scrap! I really enjoy it maybe becuz it's simple and even though there's not a lot of technique, it was quite intense and both were just raining fist at each other (some pretty good bobbing and weaving too). May have not a lot of technique but still.. One of my favourite fights of all time!
