Agreed. Every time he commentates, he wants to feel like he's on the cusp of something incredible... either a miracle, a robbery, witnessing a future all-time great, a fight of the year, a worst fight of the year, etc..
We used to have good announcers in the US like Don Dunphy and later the team of Gil Clancy and Tim Ryan. But Jim Lampley is hard to take. I like the UK announcers I have heard on Youtube vids of fights. Although the UK announcers were definitely giving Jermaine Taylor too much credit in the first fight with Pavlik, essentially ignoring (at least not noticing) Pavlik's building momentum before the knockdown, and they were completely surprised when the knockout occurred, treating like it was some lucky punch. And sometimes they don't give enough credit to the British fighter, as has happened in some of Calzaghe's fights, which is impartiality to a fault.
