Bob Satterfield hit harder than Sonny Liston

Something to think about. Satterfield had a higher percentage rate (if im doing my math right) of men over 200 pounds. And Satterfield was a light heavyweight. He likely hit harder than Bob Foster, whom many consider to be the hardest hitting light heavyweight ever.

 

Bob Foster is considered the hardest hitting light heavyweight by many and it's probably safe to say Satterfield hit harder.

But size isn't always the whole story for punching power, especially once over 175. Muhammad Ali was larger than Floyd Patterson, Rocky Marciano and Jack Dempsey and were under 200 but over 175 and all 3 are generally regarded as harder punchers at heavyweight. Deontay Wilder at 215 is thought to be a harder puncher than the 245 pound Lennox Lewis who was a devastating puncher in his own right. And Wilder might be THE hardest ever pure puncher at heavyweight, despite weight wise being average or even below average weight for a 21st century heavyweight. There's an argument to be made that Wilder could have made cruiserweight.

Primo Carnera was taller, bigger, larger fists than almost every world class heavyweight from his time until today. Even Sonny Liston, but he's not even close to being the hardest heavyweight puncher. Even in his own day when heavies were routinely 5'11-6'1 and 180-199 pounds, he wasn't the hardest puncher.

So it's not out of the realm of possibility that Satterfield may have whacked as hard or harder than Liston when he got a good shot in. Liston was more skilled and could apply his power better.
