Really could go like the Izonreti fight, Bob takes a pasting in the first 3 rounds then storms back and destroys Hoppa.
I was there that fight, Bob did take a licking earlier on and then came back to KO that big mutha****er negro. That was also the night Briggs KO'd Kelly
Cards looking not too bad Ippy. Some nicely matched ones too. Chan vs Foley could be interesting as well as Powell against Tasci who i have heard alot about but not seen much of.
Chan and Foley will be a real war mate. Or has the potential to be anyway. Looking forward to seeing Butterfly Eadie again too.
I reckon Butterfly Eadie is right up there, has been inactive due to work commitments but skill wise is right up there with cool willie & the Zap, has challenged Mohammed Elomar for Oz title, only to be turned down, I dont blame Mo as Eadie used to use him for target practise in sparring, I have also seen him absolutely bash DIB in the gym. Lets hope he knuckles down and finds the desire to give it a nudge, geez those weights around the 58-62 kg in Oz are strong, so many potentially good match ups are possible. He hasnt had the experience in the pro's but Eadie has to be mentioned in the same mix as Kickett, Zap, Dib ,Gostellow & Crowe.
That was one of the first undercards announced and Im glad the fight has stayed in tact. Should be an awesome scrap. Chan gives 110% every time and rarely is in a dull fight from what Ive seen of him. Interested to see how Foley handles him. Whats the mail on Tasci? Heard he was a very credentialed amateur and he goes pretty alright. Is this on the mark?
Big Bob and Hoppa are like old mates: C/O goldcoast.com.au - Pat McLeod (Sept 5th, 2008) MAYBE it was the calm before the storm -- there were no angry threats when Australian heavyweight boxing champion Bob Mirovic faced off with challenger and rugby league bad boy John Hopoate at a Gold Coast press conference yesterday. Maybe reality had set in. What is being touted as one of Australia's most violent bouts is only days away. And in a sobering reminder they yesterday stood toe-to-toe just across the road from Wednesday's fight venue, the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. For months Mirovic and Hopoate have taunted each other. Soon bitter words will mean nothing and only fists will do the talking. So yesterday there was even a hint of respect between the pair. "I know that John is strong, there are no two ways about that," said Mirovic of the Test rugby league player. "This is a big opportunity for him to take on the Australian heavyweight champion. "After the fight I will give John Hopoate my hand, shake his and say 'well done'. No matter what John has done in the past people have to take their hat off to him. This is no easy fight. He is taking on Big Bob." Hopoate also joined in the pre-fight mini 'lovefest'. "I sort of have to be happy that Bob has given me the opportunity to fight him," he said. "I have got to show a bit of respect for Bob. He has been around for a long time and he is the Australian champion." However, there was no hiding the under-current to this fight. One fighter will be knocked out. "I know that he (Hopoate) will be in there like a hungry tiger," said Mirovic. "I know this will be one awesome fight. People will talk about this for years to come. But I will knock him out." Hopoate was just as certain the fight would not go the distance. "I have trained for 10 rounds. It won't go that long, but that is what I have trained for," he said. "Bob may have a longer reach, but that would only worry me if I hang back. But I will be in his face. This fight won't go six rounds." Mirovic, 42, a 50-fight veteran who will put his Australian title on the line against the 33-year-old Hopoate, had one parting shot. "He (Hopoate) will be trying to hide from me next Wednesday night."
