I did see Morales/Barrera 1, and I do think it is a incredible fight. But I have to say Chacon/Limon 4 was just a little bit better. Afterall, the Chacon/Limon fight had 3 more rounds of action, and culminated in a last second knockdown that gave Chacon the title. More drama!

Another thing, I thought Barrera beat Morales, so the decision left a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth.

So overall, I would have to say that the best fights that I have ever seen were:

    1. Chacon/Limon 4
    2. Pryor/Arguello 1
    3. Trinidad/Vargas (I was at this fight so I'm biased).
    4. Ward/Gatti 1
    5. Ali/Frazier 3
    6. Sorjatung/Gonzales (I'm sure I'm butchering the spelling)
    7. Barrera/Mckinney
    8. Gomez/Pinter
    9. Hagler/Hearns
    10. Morales/Barrera 1

I haven't seen Corrales/Castillo 1 yet. From what I've heard, this might make my list. :)

That fight from 2006, in Paris between the Thai and the French Algerian (I think he was Algerian) that won The Ring magazine fight of the year was wonderful also!

This might be heresy, but I actually thought Vasquez-Marquez 3 was a touch overrated! :think :think It was a excellent fight, don't get me wrong! But I don't know if I think if its one of the best fights of all time. I personally thought Vasquez-Marquez 2 was the best fight of the trilogy! More bloody and brutal!

It all depends what one is after and deems the greatest fight. If you're after incredible action then this fight is on the top tier. If you want skill AND action then it doesn't rate. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

For gruelling non stop action and frightening heart it's one of the greatest ever, some will say THEE greatest.

The general boxing fan probably doesn't about the likes of Chacon & Limon. Only yesterday I was talking with a guy who classes himself as a proper follower of boxing.

When I mentioned Pat Cowdell, the man who pushed Salvador Sacnhez all the way, he didn't even know who I was talking about. Tried to say I've got the name wrong, which annoyed me a lot. Don't tell me, I know what I'm talking about!

Guys like Chacon, Limon are the true essence of boxing. The just do not make fighters like these guys anymore. The level of hunger & desire these guys had is not around today & that's no disrespect to the elite fighters of today, who do have hunger. However, can you imagine if guys like Chacon were fighting today, they would earn a fortune.

One of the best I have seen on live T.V. and the Chacon/Boza Edwards fight was a good one

I thought the fight was very very close & a split decision either way was fair, in fact, I gave Erik more rds but have no problem with vice versa.
NEVER let the jugdes spoil a boxing match for you, they are just 3 fat ****s who usually dont know ****, I judge fights by myself, I treat it as a very small bonus if they agree.
Judge a fight from bell to bell, never mind the craziness which usually follows in judgeland.

About your top sentence, very good reasoning for having the Chacon fight ahead, that KD really made it more special for me too, it was like something from a rocky film, brilliant.

    :thumbsup

So many great fights out there.........Barrera-Morales I, Vasquez-Marquez III, Lopez-Ayala, an endless list, and all worthy of the name in their own way and to any given beholder. Chacon-Limon was just one of those lightning in a bottle moments, though. I think it's quite a bit better than Chacon-Edwards II, which was also sensational.

Another great fight during the period of the late 1970s and early 1980s was Bruce Curry vs. Monroe Brooks. A number of Mathew Saad Muhammad's bouts were terrific, too.
