Too close to call.... I'll guess Chacon wins at least 1 out-of-a 3 fight series.... Corrales' height would bother Chacon... MR.BILL
Lovely performance that by Chacon, shows that he can box when he wants to and he stays reasonably disciplined. Lopez on the other hand never gives up and is firing right till the end.
Thank you for the suggestion.....Chacon was a true warrior....I watched....Great, Great Fight !!!!! :good
I have that fight on tape... Chacon was focused, while Lopez looked *****-whipped to me... That type of outcome would NOT occur in a three-fight series... I don't think Lopez was 100% going into that fight... MR.BILL:deal
I wonder if Lopez used that as an excuse. I'm surprised Hector Camacho never did. Anyway, I'm assuming Corrales-Chacon would be the 130 versions of themselves. Therefore, Chacon would not be the young, fast, sharp fighter that beat Lopez, but the slower, easy to hit. bleeding Chacon of the LImon - Boza Edwards era. That Chacon would get pummeled by the much faster and powerful Corrales. Corrales might get dropped, but would cut up and stop Chacon.
Chacon TKO 8. Close fight ended with a three punch combo by Chacon who had underrated pop in his mitts.
Who did Corrales beat at Super-Featherweight to show he belongs with Chacon? I really do respect Corrales as a warrior but IMO he was limited and overrated. Chacon at least proved himself an ATG SFW. Even in the Boza and Limon fights he still showed the capabilities to produce angles that he showed against Lopez, the head movement and the superb counterpunches.
A motivated Chacon like the one who bested Limon for the title and retained it in his bloodbath return bout vs Boza-Edwards would have beaten Corrales, of this I have no doubt. But any other version of Bobby at 130lbs stands a higher chance of getting stopped on cuts or forced to retire on his stool imo. Another thing that worrys me a bit for Chacon is that Corrales though fighting at 130 would always rehydrate close to the welterweight limit, that is a huge weight advantage to have especially against a naturally smaller guy like Bobby. Coupled with Corrales punching power and range and its gonna give Chacon some problems. However Bobby`s smoking gun in this fight would be that lead right hand of his, he had an uncanny ability to time it perfectly and land it flush on an incoming opponents chin, and since Corrales will be the one coming forward and his defence and chin aren`t very reliable I see Bobby dropping him on his ass with it a few times before taking him out. Corrales would have made for some great fights vs the likes of Boza, Limon, Chacon, Navaratte and Choi, but I have a hard time seeing him walk away with more wins than losses against this crop, we aren`t talking faded Gainers and Manfredys here but then again with his punching power and warriors heart he would have held own with all of them.
I agree. I'm taking the 5'10 powerpunching but flawed Corrales over the 5'5 Chacon. Yes Corrales has a penchant for plodding forward with no jab but his power was real. Schoolboy Chacon was no stranger to a firefight and I think this fight ends up with too many exchanges that allow Corrales to takeover and get a stoppage in the mid rounds. I see a similar style of fight to the Corrales v Roberto Garcia matchup , where Garcia tried to be smart and box with some success early but Chico's offense just too superior and ultimately Garcia got broken down in brutal fashion. Chico's inside left hook (which he doubles often to the body) and his straight right are all good weapons. Chico was a true dynamite puncher especially at 130. Chico is getting tagged in this fight, he always did but that was his forte. I recently watched Chacon-Bazooka Limon 4 which was a great bout with big hard shots, I just don't think you can do that with Corrales, look what happened to Castillo in their first fight. Castillo was a monster at 135 and a superb inside fighter and he took huge amounts of damage from Corrales which few could take.
