Massive chacon fan,but is this performance 1 of the worse defences of a title in the history of the sport? What the hell's goin here chacon performs like a novice!

Anybody have any stories behind the fight?

Chacon was notorious for partying his ass off and cutting corners in training. As was Olivares.

Chacon was a mess in this fight and Olivares wasn't. I'm guessing 'Schoolboy' had missed his packed lunch trying to make weight.

Chacon had a crazy career really. Shot for most of his actual physical prime, and then when he's had **** loads of wars and suffered intense personal strategy he wins the best fights of his career at a higher weight.

He looked a bit sloppy there in the first round and then he shipped a left hook right hand in the second and that was it really. He didn't get over it. I don't know if my eyes are playing tricks on me but it looked like Chacon lost his gumshield at 8.36, he caught it in his glove and still had it in his hand when Olivares unleashed his next barrage of punches.
I know that Olivares, Chacon and Lionel Rose were all out on the ale together one night in 1976. I wouldn't of minded being in that company.:D

Nah, Olivares would've ***** slapped Ramos, who would've been hammered by that point. Then Rose would've calmed everyone down and Chacon would help him. Then Mando wouldn't hit the smaller guy :D

EDIT: Then a half cut Harada runs in and knocks 'em all over like skittles.

Chacon was massively weight-drained. Massively. He said later he was like a zombie in there, and a stiff breeze would have blown him over.

Great article, great vid...love Olivares...he really poured it on poor Bobby...but their third bout would be a bit of redemption for Chacon.

The story behind Bobby's poor performance in Olivares II is this. Bobby fired his long time manager/trainer Joe Ponce before starting training camp and put his brother-in-law who knew jack **** about boxing in charge of his training. Days before the fight Bobby was overweight by a few pounds and when he couldn't get the weight off he had to go into the sweat-box right before the weight-in. Bobby went into the fight real weak, but it was his fault for getting rid of Ponce. They got together again after this fight.

Yes, and also Bobby had a terrible time across the board being even close to this weight. I recall him saying he would get out of bed at night and almost scream for food as there were guys stationed by his door to keep him from getting any.
