kikibalt, Any truth to the possible Andy Ganigan vs Bobby Chacon fight in the spring of 1978. Saw an article stating, that the Hawaiian Group was trying to get Bobby to come to Hawaii for a 12-Round NABF Lightweight fight. And USA Network was going to televise the bout if it went through. That would have been one hell of a 'blast'.
I have no knowledge of that, Pepe. but its possible such talks were held. But I think such a fight would had been too big for USA Network...It would had been big enough for the big networks, just my opinion
Bobby had lost to Arturo Leon in November 1977,,, So maybe they thought they could get Bobby on the cheap,,,for early-1978. Common opponent; Ignacio Campos KO'd in 6 by Andy Ganigan in February 78'. KO'd in 7 by 'Schoolboy' in May 78'. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, would have been sold-out, 8000+ capacity.
The Honolulu Advertiser (Honolulu Newspaper) Hoping for a May 1978 Andy Ganigan vs. Bobby Chacon fight at the Blaisdell Center. A Tuesday Night fight to be televised by USA Network (Madison Square Garden). Andy Ganigan to get 30% of the live gate (8000+ capacity), plus $5000. Kikibalt,,,,,,, Any information on the February 1976 bout, with Bobby fighting Mexican Featherweight, David Sotello. It was a near riot at The Forum, when Bobby was awarded an undeserving decision over David 'Cuemavaca' Sotello Sotello was a pretty tough kid, who posted a few upsets in his career. After that bout, everyone thought that the 24 year-old 'Schooboy' was done. Senor Pepe'
February 25, 1976 Maybe one of the 'Greatest Cards at the Forum' * Albert Davila vs. Lupe Pintor * Danny Lopez vs Sean O'Grady * Bobby Chacon vs. David Sotello Wednesday Night at the Forum,,, Bobby 'Schoolboy' Chacon on the comeback trail. The 24 year-old former World Featherweight Champion takes on travelling trialhorse, the durable David 'Stinger' Sotello in a 10-Round Super-Featherweight bout. Chacon has been competing at the 130 lb. weight level, and is now rated #8 by Ring Magazine as a Super-Featherweight Chacon, who fought just last week at the Civic Center in San Jose, was unimpressive in his 10th Round knock-out win over Modesto Concepcion. Chacon hopes to get back in condition by staying busy over the next few months. David Sotello who is a better fighter than Concepcion, will present a much tougher challenge for the 'Schoolboy'. This should be an entertaining bout.
