Bobby Chacon was not an all-time great. He had plenty of talent and showed that he had fine boxing skills early in his career. But he lacked dedication, which resulted in him having trouble making weight for his second bout with Ruben Olivares. In that bout, a badly weakened Chacon was stopped in the second round and lost his WBC world featherweight title in front of a capacity crowd at the Forum in Inglewood, California. After that debacle, he parted with his manager/trainer, Joe Ponce, and became more of a brawler while fighting in a heavier weight division. To be sure, Bobby still had quite a career, but it seemed that he fell quite short of what was expected of him. - Chuck Johnston
ATG? No, but that’s rarified air. Schoolboy Chacon was one of the most exciting, gritty, thrilling, heart-on-his-sleeve fighters of his or any era and that’s plenty good enough for me. He gave his all for boxing, and for us.
Not an all-time great, but definitely one of the all-time great entertainers. That fourth fight against Limon. Jesus....
good tough fighter in some of the most exciting fights I have seen...I loved watching him...also loved Arturo Gatti and Bad Benny Briscoe and Matt Franklyn
When I saw his name the word that came to mind was "entertaining," he was in some great scraps. I'm very parsimonius with the word great, so I'll settle for very good.I put guys like Billy Graham in that bracket ,so its no put down.
Matt Franklin had a nice title run. Not an Alltime great either but I think he got the most out of his ability.
I would argue he is an alltime great. Beat Danny Lopez.Has a win vs Olivares. Beat Chucho - although he was way past his prime . Beat Boza. Beat Limon. Not to mention his wars with Boza and Limon are legend .
