Not really, maybe the top MMA fighters make boxers a bit worried but certainly not the other 98% of them that are pretty average compared to a better than average boxer.

That's only because MMA fighters make so little that the boxers think the MMA fighters might try to rob them to pay their rent

Being pretty average at MMA means you're still very likely going to be able to kick a boxers ass.

Not necessarily. I see average MMA guys get KO'D all the time in MMA with punches coming from non-boxers

Why are so many MMA fans obsessed with compared MMA to boxing? What`s the best boxing match you`ve seen?

In my experience, I never go into an MMA gym and have people say "haha boxer, I'd take you down and teabag you" but I ALWAYS go into a muay thai or boxing gym and they ALWAYS talk **** about MMA and say that it's sissy fighting and not a proper fight, takedowns don't work, tons of nonsense and chatting ****. In the streets, it's a dice roll because boxing is so effective but becomes very difficult to use if you don't have any wrestling to go with it. A lot of the old schoolers knew both, I was just watching a Max Baer fight and he did a sweet looking takedown and ground and pound. The real athletes like Bud Crawford know the value of everything in a real fight. In a proper fight, the person who lands first and lands hardest will win usually. In Masvidal's words, you need a crazy first shot and then you go for the 40 yard dash. Just my $.02

The MMA guys who are throwing those punches have takedown defence which forces extended stand up exchanges. Boxers dont have that.

Would you seriously favour a pure boxer with zero additional training to come in and beat even the lowest ranked guy at their weight class in the UFC? they'd have a punchers chance sure but they'd be a clear underdog even at that level.

I wouldn't favor a "pure boxer" in MMA no. That is to say I wouldn't at this stage favor a man only trained in boxing in an MMA match.

I'm under no illusions. I would expect a pure boxer to have enough of a martial mindset and to be smart enough to realize that he/she probably does need to learn some of the other stuff in order to have a chance in MMA. But quite frankly it's already been done. Even butterbean has wins in MMA (albeit at a fairly low level) and he was doing some training in grappling/ wrestling etc But even with this, A guy like that is always going to have the hands as his main weapon. I guess what I'm saying is if a brawling type boxer such as butter bean is smart enough to do it in the mid-2000s I expect higher level boxers to be similarly intelligent. Similarly intelligent enough to realize they need to train and the other disciplines.

Contrast that with more wrestling based styles of martial arts, I think a lot of those guys can still be successful without having any stand up game in MMA.

You need to be well-rounded in the UFC, a good ground game and decent stand up skills, unless you have one power like Pereira.

I'm sure plenty of boxers could do well in MMA if they actually trained for it, but as soon as they start mixing the martial arts in their training they stop being a "boxer" and become a mixed martial artist with a boxing base. Thats the whole point of MMA. And to take it back to the original thing that was said by the other guy ie boxers not being worried about most MMA fighters because most are "pretty average", if you're average at a mix of boxing/thai boxing/kickboxing plus wrestling/BJJ you're probably still going to beat a guy who is elite at boxing but doesnt even train for any of the other stuff, right?

The good ol "MMA is real fighting" argument.
All I got to say to that is: 12 to 6.

Real fighting my ass. It´s a combat sport. Just because you can beat someone under a rule set doesn´t mean you are capable of killing them in real life.

The MMA community tends to agree thats a stupid rule though and it was implemented because a politican was watching kung fu movies.
