I an not arguing against the merits of an MMA fighter and when it comes to "real fighting". I am pointing out how silly it is to proclaim that MMA is the superior sport because it´s closer to "real fighting". And? MMA is a sport, so is boxing. Why would anyone honestly care that one could beat the other is a "real fight"?
I am not that bothered about it personally but I could see why plenty of people would see additional merit to MMA because of that. It essentially means MMA is where the "best" unarmed combatants in the world are. Therefore their champs are the real baddest men on the planet. Btw for the record this isnt me saying boxers are inherently inferior or whatever. In fact on the whole boxers are more talented than MMA fighters tbh, but they fight under a relatively restricted ruleset so dont train for all that extra stuff those MMA guys (or kickboxers and Muay Thai guys) bring. It doesnt take more talent and it isnt more difficult to be 5 out of 10 everywhere than 10 out of 10 in one area, but it will win you fights.
People, I am Team Boxing too, but what I am supposed to do here ? Say that when you add elbows, knees, kicks and grappling, that does not make it a more amplified form of fighting ??
Cannot trust MMA fighters they are too trained in other methods. Example: "In recent boxing match MMA fighter Idris Abdurashitov unloaded a vicious kick to the face of his opponent, 1-3 boxer Bagher Faraji, at the end of a wild exchange of punches. As you would expect, Faraji never saw the kick coming. Once it landed flush, he was out cold, hunched over and crashed to the canvas. Abdurashitov was disqualified."
It does. But in the end it´s just a sport. Heck, so is MMA. Both are just sports and claiming that one is superior because it´s closer to "real fighting" is just silly. It´s a pointless comparison.
It is just a sport, that´s how I look at it as well.... problem is, a lot of boxers don´t like to be seen that way, and they want to bragging rights when compared with other sports.
Its more complete, sure. So what though. Its boxings focused nature that makes it what it is. Boxing at the highest level actually benefits from its focus. You can rarely become the level of specialist elite boxers are when you dilute your training between so many various disciplines, while the other is honing one to a laser focus. Its for this reason that at the highest level boxers will often be sharper and more proficient at their work, imo. "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times." Bruce Lee Not to go too over the top, but I dont go watch felony fights and say thats a better, more amplified fighting than mma, just because it actually is a real fight. Boxing and MMA are two distinct branches on the fighting tree... one is more rounded sure, but that doesnt make it better, imo, just different. Imo you can even add bare knuckle boxing to this discussion as well. It has certain advantages over both mma and boxing that makes it quite noteworthy of a fighting branch, imo, where I could see its proponents bringing up that its 'superior'.
