The reason bare knuckled died out and was superceded by gloved boxing was becaise boxing is much more entertaining with gloves, guys can throw way more punches.
Ill be honest, I dont see what so many have against this. Bare knuckle boxing is appealing on many levels, imo. While it is almost a completely different sport then todays boxing, I dont see the need to trash it or think less of it. I think theres something appealing about an opponent not being able to use the gloves to help their defence, and I think it does have a pinch of pureness to it.... a guy isnt going to be able to just sit in front of you all night with his high guard up (Winky, Clottey, ect) absorbing your punches and blocking them with their gloves. Plenty to like about bareknuckle boxing, imo. And these two werent some shmucks you would find fighting outside a bar or in the crowd of some mma event, they knew what they were doing.
Ive been wanting to put something like that together here for some time now. I know plenty of guys that would do it, I think I kinda want to put together a little card and see how it goes, but theres just so much more to it then just getting a bunch of guys who want to fight together, thats the easy part.... a lot of legal crap to go along with it.
What do you have to get, a venue, event insurance, liability waviers signed, what else on your end as the promoter?
i heard about this fight when it first happened and wanted to see it. i was kind of expecting a wild swinging streetfight, but instead was surprised how under control it all was. quite interesting.
Entertaining scrap... Kimbo was approached to fight Gunn already but passed. That would be a very good fight but very short. When gloves became part of boxing it was a way to spin boxing as a more "humane" competition and to prolong the matches. Gloves has actually caused more risks to the athletes health to be honest but I support all combat sports... MMA, boxing and bare knuckle if it catches some momentum.
Wow. When I watched the idiots on Knuckle, I had no hope for the sport. After watching this, it might do well if they actually got a legitimate venue and approval from athletic commissions.
It did kind of.... But only because the challenger was looking more to be on the defensive through throwing punches that had no chance in landing... He was trying to control distance and keep Gunn at bay by keeping up his output but it was all empty threats. Bobby walked him down and beat him up. One guy came to fight the other came to survive.
