Bobby Lashley's next opponent is apparently this guy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Waterman Ron Waterman, another ex/current pro wrestler by the looks of things. He's pretty old and he's fought in UFC and Pride, anyone seen him fight? Dont recall if I ever saw him :huh By the looks of things it will be Lashley's best opponent yet...
Tbf he is getting on but he is experienced and has good strength as well as a good wrestling game so its a decent fight for lashley to learn from.
This is a vey very good fight. Ron Waterman although getting on is a very well conditioned pro. Much like Lashley he is/was an avid bodybuilder but who has solid wrestling credentials and i believe he runs his own wrestling school. The great thing about Ron is he's quite aversed in a number of submmisions and is a very good shoot wrestler. Lashley is going to really have to control him from the mount as theres a high probability he may get submitted if it goes to the mat and he ends up on his back. Dam shame Ron isnt in the UFC as i promise you he'd clean house even at his age Im just glad in some respects that pro wrestlers are finally getting there dues. Im tired of hearing the whole bull**** that its fake yadda yadda. These men are legitimate athletes. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x19t7p_ortonrico-vs-lesnarron-waterman_sport
The last time I saw Waterman was against Dave Herman on Showtime. Herman is one of the best athletes I've ever seen in mma. Herman is not really good at anything skillful that I know of. Herman stopped Waterman rather quickly if I recall, but I wouldn't hold too much against Waterman for that. Herman is big, 6'5" and a lean 240 or so. With Herman's explosiveness, he could hurt a lot of guys in the heavyweight division. I think Waterman is on the level Lashley needs to stay for a few fights. Lashley still looked green against Sapp. Lashley's take down attempts will be hard for anyone to thwart, but he still seemed as though he was a little lost on the ground. Almost like you were watching him think his way through.
Very good opponent for Lashley. Waterman is extremely strong, clean living and he has a vast amount of experience. This is a fight that Lashley should, if he is going anywhere in the sport, win.
Waterman is a good test opponent for all heavyweights; same reason they gave him to Roger Gracie. I don't know if Lashley will beat him, but from what I have seen so far Lashley just does not show the potential to be any sort of meaningful HW. First off he is too small, he wrestled at 177, he doesn't have the frame of a true HW, he just has a lot of muscle packed on. He also never went beyond the NAIA, which is lower than the NCAA, that might have been because of grades though. Most importantly in his fights he just doesn't look like anything close to the next top 10 heavyweight.
Too small? 6ft 3 comes down from 300lbs to make 250 for his fights but yeah he's small alright! This content is protected
Read what I said; the guy wrestled at 177, his frame isn't the same size as the big heavyweights like Lesnar, Barnett, or Gonzaga, he has a ton of muscle obviously. He is a bit like Monson, he can pack tons of muscle of muscle on, but without all of it he could probably make 205.
I know Lashley wrestled at 177 but he was also ALOT younger when he did that. Lashley is in his early 30's an approaching muscular maturity. Im fairly certain he's off hormones and he has lost zero musculature conditioning unlike Lesnar. Its not easy in the slightest to get to 300lbs. No amount of steroids can get you there im pretty sure you know that. Just like Lesnar Lashley is genetically blessed. Theres no way in a million years Lashely could make 205 forget about it.
Well as is, no he couldn't. I'm saying had he not put on all that muscle, he would be better suited to not being a heavyweight. Things like bone structure, shoulder width (from the bones, not the muscle), hand size, arm length, that sort of thing.
Possibly. He would have got to around 220-230 naturally i would imagine. A good indication of size can be determined from bone structure. Lashley is certainly a guy who would fill out at well over the 200lbs mark so that essentially makes him a heavy albeit not a massive heavy by Lesnar type standards who boasts a big frame and massive hands. Then again both were augmented by artifical hormones so who knows..
