Bobo was talented, no doubt. But Lausse's whistling left hooks would eventually find their mark. He KOs Olson within 10.
Olsen's defensive style seems to lend itself in getting inside hooks IMO, that little bobs forward and back I think would allow him to get inside Lausse's punches and land some combinations and maybe grind out a decision, but if Lausse lands this could end at any minute.
There is little doubt that when Bobo Olsen and Eduardo Lausse were at their best, the consensus was that Bobo Olsen would have been the victor, were they to have fought each other. And so do I. Bobo was a hell of a middleweight whose nemesis was a "fair" fighter of that time named Walker Smith....
Basically the way I see it. Lausse certainly had his flaws that a class fighter could take advantage of. On the flipside, Olson's record against big KO punches was so-so at best, and Lausse did show he could beat HOF comp like Fullmer and Gavilan (through granted, neither one was probably at the peak of their careers). Could see this fight going a few different ways.
Olson was indeed a very highly regarded champion at one point, but his subsequent losses to an comebacking Robinson on crushing KOs suggest that he was probably regarded a bit too highly, at least as far as his ability to handle big punchers was concerned. Granted that Robinson was still good enough to beat HOF comp like Fullmer and Basilio at this time, but both were also able to beat him in a series, as did Tiger Jones. I think the fact that Olson went only 0-2 with Robby and under these circumstances is a big blow to his legacy.
