What are your thoughts and opinions? Are you comfortable going to and opponent's body? How do you set up body punches? What areas do you target?
Only time I'm not comfortable with body punching is if the opponent is around a half foot shorter than me, which is rare unless they are mini-butter bean. Grey, we've talked in PMs before right?
opinions: easy to land, good against faster opponents, a must against taller opponents. comfortable: yes, if I do control the position and time. set up: quick light combos to the head (force him to lift his guard) then strong to the body. Also when you bend a little to get inside or just defending is a perfect position to hit the body instead of lose time and energy standing up. targets: under the ribs and above the pelvis (no bone to protect) , plexus, chest (looking for breaking the opponent balance, break his stance or just the chin seeker).
my favorite punch is liver. I hit it when in close quarters, and opponent leans on me leaving his ribcage opened (most often novice fighters do this). I also search for liver when I dont want to hit opponent hard in the head but I want to punish him if he is too reckless (sparrings with new guys). The stomach punch is also good, but it doesnt make a damage like liver if opponents abs are well trained. And of course plexus is very nice, but I rarely hit it with accuracy. I tried aiming heart also but never had some results with it. Set up is jab-jab-hook in liver, or right jab-hook in liver, or jab-straight right in stomach, lot of combinations, it depends with who I`m fighting with. When I fight with somebody who knows my moves, I need more imagination to penetrate. When I fight tall guys, almost all I do is body punching, when they lower their guard there it comes headshot. After few rounds they start to move slowly, and exhaustion is getting them more. Then I start to hit head more and move more around them with pivots. With smaller guys its pretty hard to hit body, I try to move more and keep them on distance, lot of lateral and side movement. When they come in close, uppercuts in body are great tool to back them off.
I love the counter jab/straight left(?) to the body. Sidestep to the right while flicking out the jab underneath his to the solar plexus.
