Gentlemen, I know I'm resurrecting a years-old thread but I've been gone for a while. I just re-read all of your advice and I genuinely appreciate your honesty. I've been working on returning my jab to my chin and throwing from my knees rather than dropping my hands. To answer your question, Scott, my amateur record at that time was 13-0 and I had two stoppages by body shots. Righthooker - yeah, that's what comes from having a naturally small frame. When I turned 18 I was 6'4" and 155. Now I'm 190 give-or-take and my waist is the same size. I've lifted a lot of weights to increase my overall power and my neck is 16.5" but it still looks small on my frame.
Hey man, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ausdBP-MMQ have a look at this video of Barerra on the bag, particularly when he slows down, watch his hips and then watch yours. I don't think you get much if any hip rotation on your straight right hand. Your hooks look better, but you don't change elevation at all when going to the body, do this by bending your knees. I would suggest shadow boxing and hitting the bag slower to really get the feel of that right hand, your rear hip should end up infront of your lead hip if that makes sense, it's a twist of the body. Don't know if this helps or not but good luck!
1. Have your trainer use an impact shield and body protector for training. 2. Drill against a target coming at you 3. Make sure your timing your head movement correctly 4. The angle your fist connects with the target can turn an OK punch into a KO punch* :ko:boxx
