Lomachenko and he's the most successful amateur of all time. Since 2013 all the top fighters in the amateurs have thrown punches on the inside with plenty of body shots. Some countries like Cuba and England still tend to headhunt from the outside but fighters from Eastern Europe like to dig to the body.
I don't like the body jab. You have to be VERY good to get away with it if you're putting any force into it. Much too easy to counter if the opponent isn't extremely slow. Also very hard to throw correctly and maintain balance/range. It's an easy punch to land, but it's a very tough punch to land hard. There's value in it though, because the center of the body is a lot like the nutsack...you instinctively defend it. I like to use a body jab to set up other shots, but I have no illusions about it being a true scoring blow. It just truly doesn't hurt at all unless the thumb of the glove lands right on the solar plexus or something. Plus with shirts and big gloves, it's very hard to see whether a body jab really lands. 100% a setup shot imo.
Great post thanks ! Been trowing mostly jabs recently while circling around, most of my opponents don't know how to deal with it for some reasons, they're used to being bull rushed like most beginners do. Stiff jabs stop them in their tracks & they can't adjust after that, I blame the coaches in Montreal, not that much great gyms :/
Body shots are useful against someone who fights off the back foot with their shoulder pulled back. If it wasn't for body shots all you'd have to do is lean backwards.
