about mike mccallum..how wuz his body punching?? he was considered the greatest of all time..wuz his attack the typical left hook to the liver like JCC or Miguel Cotto.. Or did he vary his attack with right hands and right uppercuts to the body???

He mixed in his punches to the body.He really knew how to work the body with every punch.Cottos/Chavezs hooks to the body were much harder but Mccallum could vary his work to the body with many different punches.

.............Of course he can stake no claim to being the best ever, no one can really. It's just a nickname he had. A good one, as he did work the body very well indeed, but many others did too.

His bodywork, just like the rest of his game, was fluid and educated. Some will concentrate mainly on one punch such as the left hook to the body, but his attack featured hooks, thudding rights, uppercuts with both hands.......his attack was patient, not the Arturo Gatti school of "I'm gonna cave your ribs in with this shot for sure," rather he knew he had rounds to work and he distributed his punches artfully, never seeming to really put his whole being into the shots, just a steady tattoo of well-placed, well executed punches. He was careful to open up his opponent with his great jab and mixed in some head shots too, it wasn't like he went only to the body.

I would suggest you look up the McCallum-McCrory and McCallum-Watson bouts for an example of what I mean. MaCallum was the master of delayed gratification in the ring.

most people dont know what a 'body snatcher' is and so just guessed that it was becuase he was a good body puncher.

a body snatcher by the way is a guy who 'digs' bodies up a very grim nickname.

a good body puncher but most are more impressed about how a good very technical and moving boxer puncher could also go to the body with such fluidity. kessler is a very close version of him i feel. same size both have a left hook to the body and a right cross to the plexus.

McCallum was also very dirty and crafty with low blows.

As others said-a great over\under combnation puncher.

He didn't really have the sheer power someone like Arguello had.

thanks for the replies guys..but i've been watching lots of miguel cotto fights and he is considered the best body puncher of today..he mainly digs his left hook to the body particularly to the liver...you guys know that cotto is a left hander fighting in orthodox...i appreciate good body punching..very under utilized

i dont know about pavlik..but yeah hagler is a righty fighting lefty and so is winky..they utilized the southpaw stance because their power hand is their right...so their jab is like a orthodox stance cross..its an advantage..
