Hello I was wondering any tips I struggle I get scared in sparring to not get punched I throw my jab alot but not my right hand. How do you get out of the fear
Just go for it man, you will eventually get hit but you get used to it. I still get my ass kicked when I spar, but my last sparring partner said I actually caught him with a shot in the ribs. He said it hurt for a couple days and that gave me a nice little confidence boost.
It boils down to this: you're going to get hit anyway, might as well hit the other guy. Give him a little something to be concerned about, or fearful of.
Judging by the title I'm assuming your concern is getting hit to the body? In addition to your core strengthening routine you might want to do some impact conditioning drills with your coach using a medicine ball before you start sparring. When you've built your toughness to the point that you no longer feel discomfort during the drills you'll certainly be more than ready to handle being hit to the body with 16 oz gloves during sparring. If taking headshots is your concern then you should be picky about who you spar with. Perhaps workout with someone you know really well. You two can do whats called 'light sparring' or maybe workout using more padded 20oz or 22oz gloves.
Getting over the fear of getting hit, and gaining confidence in your defense go hand in hand. Most newbies are hurt by punches because they don't see them coming. Either because they are closing their eyes (yes, this happens a lot) or they aren't looking, i.e. turtle up and face downwards. Punches hurt more when you aren't looking. When you open your eyes and see the punches, they hurt less because you involuntarily tense your muscles where you are about to get hit and it acts as padding. Or better yet, you are able to block or evade the punch. Once you can anticipate a shot, and turn into it, or block it - then you'll be less scared to throw a punch in return.
