    MY bold statement(s):

    Sandy Saddler > Willie Pep.

    (Apparently beating the guy three out of four and stopping him/making him quit in all three wins isn’t enough to make it not controversial to think he was actually better than Pep, but that’s where we are.)

    AND ... Pep was every bit as dirty as Saddler, at least in their fights. Yet nobody calls him a “dirty fighter.” The ONLY reason people make a big deal about Saddler being dirty is because he rouged up a Willie Pep who was fighting every bit as dirty. If Saddler only fights Pep once and loses, we don’t ever hear a peep about his rough-and-tumble style.

    George Foreman's comeback was enabled by corruption in matchmaking at the IBF (there is testimony in the IBF trial saying bribes were paid to ease his path) and Holyfield held back when he could have KO'd him (could have been risk aversion, could have been something else).

    I have no evidence of this next claim, but my personal belief is that one or more of the comeback fights were fixed, possibly by Bob Arum or others without Foreman's involvement.

    He's still great, maybe the greatest HW, no others could have been fighting in their late 40s even with a thumb on the scale, but the bribery evidence is strong and once you accept that then you have to wonder what else was going on.

    This is my bold and paranoid rant.

    The average boxer from 100 years ago (1920s, which many consider "the golden era"), was not better conditioned than the average boxer today.

    Some of my bold statements:
    • Jofre, Sanchez and Zarare are all overrated.
    • Canto and Olivares are greater than Chavez
    • Being undefeated means nothing.
    • Laguna from the first Ortiz fight is one of the best LWs ever, H2H.
    • FOTC Frazier beats any Ali.
    The big one, is that prime Charles beats Marciano. And he's no less than the third best ever, after Duran and Robinson.

    McClellan was heavy into dog fighting. And, as with most dog fighters, that extended to being a dog torturer and murderer.

    One of the stories that stuck out to me gave an account of what happened the day he took a rescue home from the animal shelter. Let’s just say that dog would’ve been much better off being euthanized

    If you’re interested, I can elaborate.
