Toney was already 15 years into a professional career though and perhaps closer to 30 in total if he started boxing young. Bill Miller was an oracle....same with Eddie Futch and Manny Steward. Those Michigan boys learned their craft the hard way and passed it on to their best students.
The game plan Khan was given of using side to side lateral movement was correct. It’s not Bomac’s fault Khan did not have the intellect to pull it off. This is what comes of not living the life of a fighter and being more interested in celebrity.
That is a really informative & honest video from Ingle before the fight...as he said Bomac would have done as much as he could in he short time which he had ...which would not be a lot...
I dont think it was a question of intellect that was stopping Khan, I t was the heavy jabs Khan took in the 1st 30 seconds of the fight...Khan knew he was up against it...
Fighters know how to train and what prepares them best for the fight. A trainer is an extra eye to remind you if they see you making mistakes or if they see an opening on your opponent. Maybe he holds mitts or wraps hands nice.
Seems to be a common theme with trainers. They get hold of one special talent and people think that they're special. Virgil Hunter, most of the fathers in the "father/son" training relationships too. Show me the one thats brought numerous guys through from a kid to world class, and then I'll think they've had a major impact.
BoMac should be renamed BigMac He should have just stuck to eating Chicken Nuggets on the weekend. Dom Ingle had him on strings during the press conference as well.
I don't doubt that Bomac knows his boxing. It's just that Bud's success seems to have gone to his head a lot more than it ever went to Bud's, which is strange. He can look like much less of a buffoon in moments like this (Khan's defeat) if he just sticks to his job and dispenses with the poor man's Uncle Rog/Floyd Sr. act.
Side to side movement and using a good jab is sound advice for a fighter that's a facing someone like Brook.
