The question was 'Who was the more naturally talented fighter, Graham or Laing' .. For me it has to be Laing, even though his attitude stunk and he never trained, it was all natural ability with him .. Graham was a brilliant boxer and was far more dedicated, more polished and had by far the better career. But for pure natural talent then Laing was the better of the 2 .. Im a big fan of Herol Graham but i just dont buy into this 'He was so unlucky not to win a World title', if he operated today he'd be a sure thing for a title because its a weak era and you can hand pick opponents more today if you're with a guy like Warren .. There was nothing unlucky about getting decked by Jackson, that kind of thing can happen in boxing, especially against a power puncher .. He wasnt unlucky against McCallum, McCallum was the better fighter who did the better work and justly won the fight and he wasnt unlucky against Brewer either, bad luck has nothing to do with his losses, he had his chances and one way or another he blew them all. It is a little frustrating when no talent fighters like Clinton Woods can claim to have been a World Champion but Herol cannot but thats boxing ..
Always getting better with your posts lad (in terms of your ability to 'sum up'....I always go on long rants that go nowhere ) :good
Laing clearly had more natural talent. Graham was not unlucky he was around in the era when there were some great and very good champions.Kalambay,McCallum,Jackson and brewer were better and prior to that Hagler, Hearns and Sugar Ray Leonard were to good for him. He would have had pt no pot luck with Nunn,Toney, McClellan,Roy Jones, Watson, Benn or Eubank. Laing was naturally very gifted but lacked substance hence less naturally gifted fighters like Colin Jones would beat him. Laing beat the ATG Duran when Duran was still substantive and would go on to win 2 more world titles far superior to anything Graham achieved.
