    From Wiki...

"Jeffries broke the ribs of three opponents in title fights: Jim Corbett, Gus Ruhlin, and Tom Sharkey."

Considering he had less than, what, 20 fights that's pretty amazing.

Did anyone else injure opponents that much? Cuevas, maybe?

Cuevas is a good shout. He fractured the jaws of Espada and Weston, and fractured the eye socket of Billy Backus.

In Dempsey's first match with Bill Brennan, the final punch he floored KO with was so hard that it caused Brennan's legs to lock up on the way down, causing them to fracture. He caved in Willard's cheekbone with the first left hook he decked Jess with, and later lifted his body off the floor with rib fracturing hooks downstairs. In sparring, he also fractured the ribs of big George Godfrey.

Bob Fitzsimmons shattered a man's wrist with a missed punch. I have heard that Frazier cracked a rib of Quarry's with the bodyshot he decked Jerry with in their rematch.

If Marciano did indeed shear off Rex Layne's teeth at the gumline, perhaps that meets your criteria for bone breaking power.

Meanwhile, I'll try to remember what other examples might qualify.

I would add Bob Fitzsimmons and Mexican Pete Everet to that list.

I know Fitz basically killed three guys, but what bones did he break?

    Same goes for Everet...?

I am saying that they both also got their ribs caved in by Jeffries.

Makes you wonder if Jeffries left hook might have been as potent a weapon as Rickard claimed.

I read the Jeffries vs Pete Everett match. Everett went to the hospital for a few days with back and body injuries. The old timer fighters focused on body punching.

If jeffries hit that hard how come it took him 12 rds to stop a 37 year old middle weight ,who had been away from ring competition ,living the good life ,and on the **** for some time?

It took Jeffries a few rounds because he was not supper aggressive vs Fitzimmons. Jeffries had just a few fights under his belt going into this fight, and was trying out a new style he just picked up in training. His plan was to box and break Fitzsimmons down, than go in for the finish. Jeffries floored Fitz in rounds 2, 10 and finished him in round 11. I suppose he could have finished the job earlier if he wanted to. Remember, these were 20-25 round fights.

Jeffries beat all his major opponents by grinding them down, and in all of the fights he had significant weight advantages,Jack Johnson ,who fought and old Jeffries said"Jeffries had a solid wallop,Fitzcould knock your brains out ,but Choynsky could paralyze you!" Johnson rated Choynsky ,Fitz then Jeffries out of the three. Corbett also said Choynsky hit harder than Jeff. If a man enjoys large weight superioity over his opponent ,its likel;y he will do more damage.[39 lbs over Fitz,32lbs over Sharkey,30 lbs over Corbett],but to make himout to be a monster puncher is a fallacy,Jeffries won his major contests by a combination of grit ,endurance strength, and durability,he was no one punch banger, and never kod a man in the top flight his own size and age.

There is not necisarily a correlation between power and the length of time it takes you to get oponents out of there.

Going after an oponent from the opening bell was not something you did in Jeffries day unless the oponent was verry weak or gave you an opportunity too good to pass up.

Terry McGovern was seen as something of an enigma when he started knocking oponents out early.

This is a mis-informed post. Jeffries won several of his matches on one big punch. The Griffin, Fitz II, and Corbett I fights were all one punch Ko’s that exceed the count of ten. Many others were done in based on one or two big shots. Don't confuse style and tactics with power. Some historians and fighters of the timeline felt Jeffries, and not Dempsey or Fitzsimmons was the era's best puncher. I have the quotes archived. Jeffries has at least one knockdown in all of his fights, save his comeback effort. To say he wasn’t a good puncher is mis-informed.

I have no inside info on the Griffin fight, butCorbett was coming back and 34 years old, conceding 3olbs,Fitz was 40 and giving away47lbs,and he wrecked Jeffries before succumbing,Ive read acounts that Fitzs hands were smashed from continually belting the bigger man,Ruhlin was conscious and sitting on his stool when his corner threw in the sponge,[from Fleischers book].I repeat Jeffries never kod atop heavyweight his own size an age,his best wins were over former champions Corbett and Fitz and two gruelling battles withthe 5 9 cruiserweight Sharkey ,who he failed to stop in 45 rounds ,the same Sharkey was kod in 8 by Fitz ,but the referee dsqd Fitz. How much merit should we give a man who kos a 40 year old over whom he has a 47 lbs weight advantage?.I didnt say Jefries wasnt a good puncher,I included the Johnson Quote,"jeffries had a solid wallop",but a good puncher not a one punch banger,if you contend otherwise .who are the men his own size and age he kod with one punch?
