I have him getting hurt badly against George .No Lyle type war here ,just Oscar getting clubbed to the canvas early in the fight. Norton v Oscar could turn out interesting with a close fight. Because of the styles of both men Oscar could prove a nightmare for him. I see Bonavena hurting Ken enough for a last few round s stoppage.
Norton had an unusual style that made him vulnerable to certain fighters. Easily KOd by Foreman, Shavers, and Cooney. I don't know enough about Bonavena to know if he could take advantage of Norton's style.
Ringo gave Ali problems, even when Ali knew the Frazier fight was "all on-the-line". Plus Ringo could do a pretty good imitation of a "chicken peeping" when trying to demeanor his opponent.
Chicken peeping. Hahah. Love it. I also love Bonavena, always have a soft spot for Argentinian fighters who come up the hard way, battling through the usually surprisingly deep and competitive Argentinian scene. I feel the same way about Roldan, another heavy hanged but deceptively skilled fighter who would have shone and likely dominated if they hadn't run into the truly great fighters of their respective times. I've been pretty happy that the last few weeks on the board have seen new footage of his unearthed, with Oscar looking nothing but competent.
Ali had no business fighting Bonavena so soon after his comeback began .. he looked terrible in that fight and the last round KO really saved the day for keeping the Ali comeback on the move .. he was winning the fight but looked dreadful .. I see a 1972 Ali doing much better w Oscar ..
Of course Bonavena was supposed to fight Norton in March 1975. Bonavana pulled out, Jimmy Young was announced as Norton's opponent (not sure what happened with Young), and then Norton-Quarry was made.
Oscar knocks norton out, norton never did well against sluggers. Oscar by k.o. round 11 George foreman would mop the floor with him though, foreman was like oscar but superior in every single way, foreman by t.k.o round 5
Oscar could stop Norton late when he was good. I would also give him a chance to upset Foreman, or take him into real deep water where George is not used to, and lose a disputed decision.
I feel Bonavena is being undersold a bit in this thread. I doubt fight fans would pick him to have the kind of success he did against the soon to be champion of the world Joe Frazier if those fights hadn't actually occurred. And "on paper" I'm sure plenty would pick Lyle over Bonavena by stoppage as well. If the two hadn't both fought Ali, I also doubt fans would choose Oscar to have more success against Ali than Quarry managed despite having two seperate chances.
