:good in a nut shell, bugner always managed to lose the big fights.his best fight was against joe frazier when he got knocked down.
he got up and gave a good account of himself, but still lost.

If Joe's in one of his 'up for it' moods,he outpoints Oscar. iIf not,he gets outworked himself. Definitely a distance fight.

Bugner with his Solid chin..points pinching Jab...and Mobility...AND ability to tie up and Negate...would i think be able to Matador ol Bull Rush Oscar...it probably wouldnt be pretty but Joe's safety first approach would serve him well against the Powerful but "No Surprises" Oscar...THe Ref would probably earn his Money...Thats the thing with Joe...he would not be looking for a KO...not Looking for the spectacular...the brief would be to pile up points and stay out of trouble... as Oscar is not incessant like Frazier...i'd back Joe in this one...

Agree with the above, over the distance.

If Bugner really gets after it, he's the higher quality fighter.

But I'd have to pick Bonavena, because more often than not, that Bugner didn't show up for dangerous, big fights.

Bonavena wins a decision. Bugner too much of a woulda, coulda, shoulda fighter.
