Oscar by mid or late round kayo after some very exciting early rounds. Oscar had a funny jaw, he took some really good shots from Frazier, but, was floored twice by over stuffed middleweight Jimmy Ellis.
It took a sharpshooter to get to Oscar, whereas a Joe Frazier, who back then was blowing away his competition, couldn't dent Oscar's chin. I think Ringo was a lot savvier and awkwardly clever than he was given credit for being by the wags and so called "experts" back in the 60's. I think those qualities, added to his huge strength and unpredictable, "out of the blue" power shots, and the fact that he didn't have any discernible rhythm that he could be timed by, would lead him to a stoppage win, but sometimes, Oscar wasn't the best finisher and would therefore just clock up multiple knockdowns leading to a decision victory. In this case, I think he would have withstood any offense shipped forth by Tommy and would have cracked The Duke's chin sometime before the 9th round.
Agreed. Wrong guy for Tommy. He'll land some early but this guy won't go anywhere. The guy showing the effect of punches late in the fight will be Morrison. And I think once it's past the 5th round, he gets badly outslugged by the guy. It might be like the Lewis stoppage with multiple knockdowns, but I don't see Morrison finishing the fight.
Agreed. Oscar was in a category of his own and trying to get him out of there was like trying to kill a roach on steroids. Be a fun fight for several round though with some good shots exchanged but ultimately Morrison gets broken down and stopped.
Tommy Morrison was bigger, stronger, a bigger puncher against modern heavyweights, and had much faster hands than Frazier. Frazier beat Bonavena and so would Morrison.
Tommy was completely open and had a very poor chin. I doubt he comes through this, without being knocked in under 8 rounds. The only thing going for him is his size advantage.
