The replay slo/mo reveals that the knockdown was a result of the wrist/forearm of Jones smashing into the nose of Calzaghe. It was like something from an old UFC fight. Not intentional on RJJ's part, of course, just the way the fighters were angled. I don't think Joe would have been quite as stunned if the padded part of the glove would have hit him. But maybe he would have. Must have hurt in any event.

I'm glad Joe had to fight back to win. He took some hard shots.

The laces on the inside of the glove appear to have caused the cut on the bridge of Joes nose. Pretty nasty!

I guess if the ref saw it clearly he might have given Joe 5 minutes to recover, but I don't blame the ref for missing it. It was really only visible in super slo mo. And Roy wasn't fouling or anything or trying to hit him that way.

That point in the fight and the moments and two rounds that followed showed that Roy Jones is done.

Five years ago, he would have FINISHED Calzaghe. NO DOUBT!!! That fight started just like Roy Jones wanted it too, and showed flashes of what ROY JONES was, but he could not finish the fight. Calazaghe got JONES five years after JONES was at the TOP of his game...

Calzaghe would have been younger and fresher as well. Joe is at the end of his peak. You have to use a time machine for a fair comparison at 168, which is Joe's prime weight. I think his success at 175 really just proves his greatness all along at 168. I don't think he considers himself the greatest light heavyweight of all time. But I do think the prime Joe Calzaghe would have beaten the James Toney that fought Roy Jones.

Easily by shutout. Joe and roy are the best of the best at 168 or 175 since michael spinks. They both looked like they were fighting in the mirror last night.

Roy's eyelid will probably sting as well. And his kidneys will be adding a little extra hemoglobin to his urine.
