Quarry was at his best , when in shape, against big , slow guys ... Bonecrusher was very big, extremely strong and hard hitting but kind of slow and Jerry could do a repeat of the Lyle fight ..
I was going to say this Fergy. Jerry Quarry's skill set would be to much for James " Bonecrusher " Smith to handle.
My mistake but I wasn't too far off he was a former prison officer and later became a Christian minister.
I think Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko both have University degrees? But Bonecrusher may well have been the first?
Smith has a BA and yes the Klits had degrees. Wasn't Vitali Dr Steelhammer, which was a dumb name. What else are hammers made of, plastic?
Quarry would have to do enough to win without making Bonecrusher mad enough to attack him. If JQ could make BC "over think" and not be aggressive, JQ could win. If BC started throwing heavy punches and coming forward, making JQ back up, JQ would be in trouble. BC was much bigger, much stronger, in most fights better conditioned, JQ does have some good counter punching ability but he also tended to lose concentration and he got hit clean and hard even in fights he was winning. Quarry got hit hard by Lyle round after round for short periods of the round. JQ did enough to win almost every round, but he probably got hit by the harder punches in the fight. BC is bigger, and stronger than Lyle too. JQ would need to walk a tight rope, do enough to win but not make BC upset enough to go all out. When BC didn't over think and just fought, he was almost "Wilder" dangerous, just not as quick. JQ was an over achiever who usually was not in great shape, if he could keep BC guessing and not aggressive he could take a decision but if BC just went for the knockout, I think JQ would be in trouble.
Bonecrusher went for the kill against Marvis Frazier early and couldn't finish him off, and Frazier wasn't exactly known for his durability. If Bonecrusher had Frazier reeling early, and floored him late on and yet still got outboxed overall by Frazier. Then I tend to think Quarry would be just fine. Quarry was known to be pretty durable and has been in there with good punchers like Patterson, Lyle, Shavers, Mac Foster.
During what fights against quality opponents was Bonecrusher ever Wilder dangerous? The Witherspoon win stinks to high heaven and that's putting it mildly.
DP, I think Marvis Frazier was a good fighter, beat some good ones, and just lost two high profile fights early and that makes some IMO, underestimate him. I'd pick Marvis Frazier to beat a lot of fighters that you probably wouldn't give him a chance against. JT1, we wouldn't agree on who qualified as a "quality opponent" so there is no point in listing who I think is quality. People see things differently, you are entitled to your opinion and I have mine. You thought that a video of 74 year old GF hitting a heavy bag was legit. You were in awe of how hard he could hit. I thought the video was a commercial or some type of set up, it didn't look real to me at all, the people in the background looked like actors, the guy holding the bag over reacted, and GF's face was never shown while hitting the bag. I doubt that was GF and even if it was, a guy throwing 5-7 punches at a stationary heavy bag would not impress me. https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/74-year-old-george-foreman-hitting-the-heavy-bag.702574/ And again, we don't/won't agree on BC-Witherspoon 2. NOTHING about that fight "stinks" to me. TW got caught and he got beat up. IMO, anybody who was going to throw a fight wouldn't take a beating like that. Different life experiences, different opinions on what we see. TW got caught, Marvis Frazier got caught, it happens, doesn't change my opinion of the fighter much if any, just means he got caught in the first round. Mike Weaver also got caught by BC, I had/have a high opinion of Weaver too and I think he was an extremely dangerous fighter too. I also think BC is an extremely dangerous opponent, you apparently don't, that's your opinion and it doesn't bother me.
