The Nigerian nightmare vs the Bonecrusher. What comes of this one ?

If Boneclutcher goes in with the same master plan of "clench so I don't die" that he did with Tyson I see him losing in similar fashion.

However Peter isn't as fast as a prime Tyson nor as technically skilled and I could see Smith pot-shotting Peter to a very boring UD. Really just depends on his mindset.

Bonecrusher by decision based on higher work rate.

Bonecrusher stoppage. We are talking about a guy whose best wins are Tim Witherspoon and Frank Bruno, and regardless of method, went twelve against a prime Tyson, against a guy who lost to Eddie Chambers and only managed a draw in his first fight with James Toney.

Also, Smith was usually beaten by good boxers, and I am not sure that Sam Peter actually knows what boxing is.

I think Peter from the Wlad fight was good enough to win. Might look something like the McCline fight.

Ruddock stopped him. That's pretty much the only decent brawler I can think of who he fought.

He was on the downside for that fight.

David Bey? Mike Weaver? Don't know if you'd cons them "brawlers" but they could punch.

Prime-for-Prime, Smith is easily the favorite in this one. Probably an ugly fight, though.

Bonecrusher was a lot more consistent and his boxing intelligence was strong enough to make any adjustments to win. Smith WU10/12

I’m fairness, Smith was thirty six years old, off for a whole year, a then career high weight, and hadn’t won a match since 1986 ( fought Ruddock in 89. ) he also took the fight on short notice and despite all the above had Ruddock down and very nearly out. Not sure this is a good example to gauge how he’d do against Peter.

I can see an argument for Smith possibly winning. But not on the basis that he was “ more consistent.” Smith lost a lot of fights in the mid to late 80’s.

He was a late bloomer and won a bunch of fights in a row after. Maybe slightly worse than when Tyson beat him.

Anyway, Peter had huge confidence and self belief until Wlad beat most of it out of him. I’d think he’d will himself to victory over Smith, who didn’t exactly have a deep skill set or great defense.

And Peter losing to smith is a very real possibility. But using the Ruddock fight as any sort of gauge doesn’t make that case. Smith was in horrible shape for that fight. I might have picked 1986 Bonecrusher to beat Ruddock.

But did Bonecrusher ever show the kind of heart that Peter did against Wlad? They both could bomb, but Peter wouldn’t pack it in without a fight.
