Bones doesn't ever want to fight Anderson Silva (sorry Beouche!)

The pair's dominance in their respective divisions has prompted fans to call for a dream showdown between the pair, but Jones, who intends to move up to heavyweight, wants Silva to be a mentor for his career.

Jones admitted he is likely to move up to heavyweight in 2013, but intends to clear out the light-heavyweight division before switching weights.
"I spoke with Dana White about making a heavyweight fight in 2012 but he said he didn't consider it a good idea right now," Jones said. "But after beating Dan Henderson, Rashad Evans and maybe Alexander Gustafsson in 2012, I don't see what to do in this division, not wanting to disrespect anybody."







I never thought there was any chance of this fight ever happening, have been saying so for a long time, despite the outrage of Beouche and many other people. Jones is a very young and very big lightheavyweight, Anderson Silva is a 36 year old middleweight, it's not a good fight and never has been, and thankfully it seems Jones, Silva and Dana White all agree. Bones has huge fights with Evans and Henderson on his plate, and then he wants to go to heavyweight, not fight a middleweight.

Those 2 are my favourite so I wouldn't like to see them fight anyway. Anderson vs GSP is the fight I'd like.

 

It makes sense why Bones would idolize Anderson. For me, Bones is as good a wrestler as I've ever seen in MMA, I don't think he needs to look up to anyone in that regard, but the Machida fight said to me (and to Jon himself as well I think) that Jones is some way off being a striker on Anderson's level, so he probably wants to learn from him. I think Jones (like pretty much everyone else who watches MMA) admires the clinical way that Silva finishes fights. What fighter wouldn't want to emulate him?

 

IMO, Jones will beat Rashad, Hendo and Gustafsson for his next three.

I hope in the same timeframe that the UFC match Machida well (something like Rich Franklin then Ryan Bader then Rashad or Davis), so it builds a rematch.

I'd dearly love to see Bones-Machida II before Jones goes to hw, but Lyoto badly needs wins before he would deserve another shot.

Jones says he doesn't want the fight. Says he wants to move to heavyweight as soon as he's done with 205.

White says he doesn't want the fight.


What more do you need to accept it's never happening? Get over it, move on.

 

Machida was winning the fight until Jones got a takedown. The elbow which caused the cut changed that fight. If Machida had managed to defend Jones's takedowns, who knows how that fight could've turned out?

Ultimately, I do think Jones would beat him again, but I'd still love to see more of those two guys in the Octagon, it was much more interesting and exciting to me than any other recent Bones fight while it lasted, because Bones always looks so comfortable, but he didn't vs Machida until Lyoto had been affected by that bad cut.

It'd be another intriguing fight IMO, I'd love to see it, even if (as I expect) Jones would find a way to win again.
