Booing of anthems.......

It's only in soccer that this booing occurs, which leads a lot of people to assume Hattons fans aren't true boxing fans.

 

Good point about American's not really playing global sports - certainly team sports anyway.

**** the booing - the most disgraceful scene I have ever seen in sport was the acts of the USA Ryder Cup team of 1999. I am not a massive golf fan, infact that is the only golf I can watch, but that was shocking.

Good to see that the more recent events have taken place in a better spirit.

 

I'm not defending it, I was appalled at Vegas when it happened and cringe everytime I hear it happening at an England game but fact of the matter is, the culture of football at the moment is that (English) supporters generally boo the opposition. Whether that be an anthem, when a substitute comes on, when the opposing goal keeper approaches the opposition end... whatever. Hatton does get a lot of football fans at his fights so the same mentality is brought in ie booing the national anthem against PBF and the ring walk against Lazcano.

On the flip side however... there was no booing during fights! The Malignaggi fight was awful but everyone watched the fight and only booed at the end when he was named as winner. During the fight there was no booing. A vegas crowd would have gone nuts had that fight been staged over there!

Swings and roundabouts and at the end of the day it comes down to culture. UK culture - you are an opponent therefore the enemy therefore you will be booed - but we'll let you get on with your job. US mentality - you are an entertainer we will reserve judgement until we've seen you perform but if we're not happy we'll boo you out of the ring.

Very very simple round up - of course there will be exceptions but I think generally the cap fits.

The game is called football because the object of the game is to use your feet to place the ball in the net of the opposition.

Football, as American's see it, is more like rugby, but full of forward passes, offside and taking out players not in possession of the ball!

An England Germany game is probably the game that evokes most fervour amongst England fans, for quite obvious reasons. The Germans aren't really like us though when it comes to sport - i.e. letting it play havoc with emotions etc - ffs, they don't even go out on the **** in magaluf!

For the previous poster, there are many different forms of football, but only one of them predominantly involves the use of feet!

I am more of a rugby man (prefer league but don't mind union) myself, but never even mention the word football, when either playing or watching the games.
