Booing of anthems.......

Why does the US anthem always appear to go on for twice as long as everyone else's. Theres only so much warble, warble, warble, warbling one man can take.

 

LOL gotta say that was a good reply, football fans are are still some of the best fans tho.
Gotta say the atmosphere at a footy match is the nuts.

 

I agree, personal preference, tho football is the biggest sport in the world, so everywhere else outside the states its a religion almost. There must be something about football.

 

ALL national anthems should be booed - not only are they nationalistic, war and monarchy-glorifying bullshite, totally unrepresentative of the people they claim to represent but generally (barring a few very rare cases) they're musically appalling too - which of course is the more severe crime of the two...!

As a fan I would never boo a country's anthem. I'm offended when anyone boo's any anthem regardless of politics.

 

Why?

The Greeks ridiculed the Romans as stupid and savage when the Romans became the dominent empire, it maybe the same thing with the English.

 

Australia played Ghana last friday and we forgot to even play their anthem and left them standing side by side, hand on heart and embarrassed.

We did however play it after half time though.

 

The Welsh did not Boo the US anthem at the Calzaghe-BHOP fight

 

What alot of you arent getting is...the national anthem to alot of people is more than just a song. Its a symbol of our freedom, our pride and the men and women who gave their lives to make this country great (or any country for that matter). Those same people whom it symbolizes, are mothers, fathers, grandparents, brothers, sisters, friends, etc....all who have fallen in the line of duty (I am of this demographic BTW). Imagine the anger and hurt you are causing by booing that symbolization...just because its the "opponent" in the sporting event you may be watching?

It may be "just a song" to you...but to millions of others its much more. And for any of you to know that and STILL boo this "song", shows the type of person you are and the type of character you have...or do not have more accurately.

There are many symbols in this world that I dont feel a connection to...be it religious or personal. But I know that those things mean something to someone. And for me to even dream of disrespecting that symbol that holds such a special meaning to another person is disgusting....and something I think I am mature enough not to ever want to do.

Sorry to say...but if you of the ilk who think its ok to boo an anthem...I feel sorry for you. You need to find someway to be proud of something other than your self absorbed ego and your favorite team's/fighter's trophy/belt. Get over yourself and grow up....there are more important things in life.

 

But they boo'd their own British anthem at the English F.A. cup final. All the while the English F.A. had done a Welsh team a huge favour.

BBC microphones did not pic up English football fans booing the Welsh anthem at the F.A. cup final.

English fans did not boo the US football teams anthem.

I've heard clips of Calzaghe fans in Cardiff booing anthems, nothing new there...

All as bad as each other...
