....and you ride the nuts of any fighter with any vague connection to mexico despite the fact you're a sixth generation american.
...and calzaghe's only unbeaten because there aren't any mexicans in his divisions. ....and the heavyweight division needs some mexicans etc. etc. ...and you're american.
:rofl "Whos that? Johnny Sanchez? Never heard of him but he speaks spanish...I don't care that he lives in vermont, lets get him on board!"
Audley has never really been accepted by anyone... British people feel let down because he was a darling champ on return from Sydney.. Got paid over £1M.. for a BBC TV deal.. And never made good on his deal.. British attitude can be that way.. Build em up.. then knock em down... USA don't like him because he is British.. and so on.. The only way he will be accepted is if he humbles himself and begins a workmanlike ethic.. regains control of his career , grabs some eyecatching wins and becomes a somebody... Its very sad.......
hey bigcat. was there any resentment towards him inside the industry by fellow fighters, trainers etc? guys fighting on his level but not getting any of the £1million pound bbc gravy train.
People are too sensitive with this type of thing. Unless the behavior is racist or harmful towards the opponent it really doesn't matter if people boo or not. If I'm going to watch my favorite team play I'm not gonna cheer during the opponent's player intros. Same goes for boxing. Go ahead and boo the anthem. Keep in mind that the same Hatton fans that booed the US anthem were the same ones that had a long flight home after Mayweather took their man to school. :hi:
There was a underbelly of resentment , lots of small jibes made etc.. by other fighters who reflected what the press were saying with headlines like (Audinary Harrison, Audley Embarrassin..) You started to get a whole influx of british fighters who demanded a fight with him to elevate themselves to his so called level.. Danny Williams did, Herbie did and Dereck Chisora is today (new domestic star) No real hate, but a bit of a justified green eyed monster.. When Danny dropped him, Guinn beat him, and Sprott KO'd him, they all had thier sly snickers, but its testiment to him that he is still determined.. He is likeable.. I wish him well..
I like this post alot and I would go so far as to say that the "build 'em up and knock 'em down" part is a universal sentiment throughout the boxing world. People want to see a guy make it to the top and they enjoy the ride. Think of the guy who wins a title and the fans he makes along the way. Suddenly, the guy's a champion and then a whole different dynamic takes shape. The guy isn't active enough or he's not trying to unify. The same fans who rooted him on during his climb now want him dethroned. Or how about the guy who wins a belt and keeps defending it successfully? Then it becomes a matter of wanting to see someone beat him for the sake of finding another Rocky. Everybody loves a good upset. Or how about the possibility that your opinion changes of the guy after each fight? Maybe he's getting more cocky during his interviews. Well, we can't have that now can we? Normally, making it to the top doesn't involve being a nice guy. It's somewhat of a paradox with fighters like Wladimir Klitschko being an anomaly. You have to have that vicious streak and often times it becomes very difficult to turn off outside the ring. Fans then want you to lose because you're too cocky or you're not a nice enough guy to be a representative of the sport. Boxing chews you up and spits you out. Mike Tyson said it best when he said that a championship belt is like a woman, just looking for the next champ. Many fans are the same way.
