Dark Trade by Donald McRae - following the sport and certain fighters closely during a period in the 1990s. Superb. McIlvanney on Boxing by Hugh McIlvanney - a collection of articles written by the great man for the various outlets he covered boxing for during his career. The Sweet Science by A.J. Liebling - a collection of boxing articles he wrote for the New Yorker back in the day. If you like great writing you will enjoy all of these writers.
Have to agree with the poster who suggested Raging Bull, such a great book and an interesting insight into the brutality of how life was when you were born into that environment. Also, I get suspicious about auto biographies, I think people naturally want to put a nice shine on their life (I never bullied anyone, never took any cheap shots etc. Yeh right). What I like about Raging Bull is that it does feel honest, he definitely isn't portraying himself as a good guy. But if like me you got into boxing in the Benn / Eubank era then their books are worth a read, interesting to read their takes on fights they were involved in
I've just finished reading - President of Pandemonium: The Mad World Of Ike Ibeabuchi. Great book, not that long but really interesting.
Just bought these 3 books yet to read No Place To Hide - Errol Christie Bomber -Herol Graham Warrior - Matthew Saad Muhammad -Tris Dixon
Johnny Nelson - Hard Road to Glory. Loved this book, and parts relatable since I'm born and raised in Sheffield myself. Mike Tyson - Undisputed Truth. Absolutely brilliant. Got Herol Graham's book, but not read it yet (had it a while as well). The Mrs bought me Damage by Tris Dixon at Xmas, but not started it yet. Heard it's really good. Some top suggestions posted, so will definitely take a look at them...
