What are books that truly explore the sweet science explaining stances, punches, styles, defense, important fights, etc. that also may include diagrams showing how to position yourself, throw certain punches, and stuff like that. I go to a gym but really want to interpret fights better.
Out of all my reading I have done on boxing, one of the best anaylisers of a fight is ESB's very own Stonehands if you read his articles, you will come out with a better understanding of the mechanics of the sport http://www.thesweetscience.com/boxing-author.php?author=135
A book to consider... The Complete Boxer - Bohun Lynch http://www.archive.org/download/completeboxer00lyncrich/completeboxer00lyncrich.pdf
Just get Ring Magazine and see the master himself teach via installments, Bernard Hopkins has that section in the back every issue, teaching different aspects each time. On the more serious note, i don't think books can help personally, only experience.
I've got an interesting one, Outfighting or Long Range Boxing by Jim Driscoll. Obviously an old one about boxing at that time but well worth a read. Illustrations include Driscoll himself, Freddie Welsh, Packey McFarland, Carpentier, Wilde and many others.
Doesn't hurt to brush up on the basics in books but I wouldn't recommend basing all of your boxing on a book just some.
Yeah sorry if i came across as a nobhead there techks, i didn't mean that. Actually it's great that you want to gain as much knowledge of boxing as possible, you can never be too much of a student of the game.
No you didn't come across as a nobhead and I don't think you are. I want to dissect a fight more when I watch it. Experience is great and defense comes naturally for me but I want to know as much as possible especially if I do enter competition.
