Too the Eastside community I offer my apologies for letting all of this get out of hand. As I've stated in other threads it's only boxing so it's not that important to let things spiral. So I'm just stepping up and owning it.
You may have come on a bit strong, but you were right. Those threads were getting monotonous. Don't sweat it.
Was getting sick of them myself, one of the main reasons I've been away for weeks. He's banned now though so that's good news.
I have tremendous respect for many many posters here at Eastside and really enjoy reading over boxing history threads. I DO like looking at ratings and where boxers were rated going into fights, as well as post-fight ratings. I find ratings and contemporary perceptions fascinating. I feel that "where each fighter was rated going into the bout" should be part of a boxer's record (if we could agree on which ratings are used, ha ha). That's why I encouraged Ronnie to post more. I would never want to drive quality posters from the board. Apologies for any part I had in mucking up Eastside over the past few days. Rock on, everyone, and keep the quality posts and discussions coming.
The posts about the fighters place on thr ring 1996 lists is an albatross too. What if everybody did this. I read a book on the top 100 fightets. What if EVERY day I profile 2 of them. Takes up a lot of space.
^^^ I think maybe the issue is when one poster puts up so many similar posts at one time - Ring 1996 lists, heavies and their top 10 opponents, etc. They're hogging the forum. I seem to recall a few years back when one poster would put up like fifteen "Tell me about ___(fighter)_______" in a row, then get mad if people didn't respond. A couple of these at a time are fine and interesting. I think I said above, I'm not a fan of time-machine fantasy fight threads. I pretty much ignore them. But right before I began typing, a full third - 10 out of 30 - of the posts on page one were time-machine fantasy fight threads. But they weren't by the same person, so it's okay. I ignore them, other people like them and respond, and that's okay.
I like these threads quite a bit. They beat the Time Machine speculation fight threads all day long! Predicting current matchup is difficult enough, add in the fact that there are no, appointments, or even opponents of opponents and that irrelevant facts such out of prime performances are relied upon reduces them excercises in sophistry. Perhaps the threads could’ve been spaced out better give them time to percolate, and I don’t know what led to Ronny Rains being booted but I hope he comes back in resumes the threads.
Let people post as much as they want. If we have to click to page 2 to see more stuff, what's the big deal?l?
