Adam Booth has issued a statement claiming David Haye hopes his fight with Wladimir Klitschko is only postponed and not cancelled. 'The Hayemaker' has picked up a back injury whilst training for the Gelsenkirchen battle on June 20 and setanta.com broke the news on Wednesday that the contest was off. Promoter and trainer Booth has relayed the disappointment of the camp but is remaining upbeat on the situation. After accepting it was "the most disappointing and devastating news that David has ever had to deliver", Booth revealed more details on the injury. Unfortunately David has sustained a back injury which means he is unable to continue training for a short period," he said. "Were heading back to the UK for some aggressive physiotherapy. "It looks like there will be only a three-week delay from the original fight date, which hopefully means that Wladimir will only postpone the fight, rather than cancel it. Haye himself said: Im sorry to disappoint all my fans across the world and I hope that once I have had the sufficient treatment, I will be able to start training again and we can get the fight on as soon as possible. "I know this is the fight the fans want and I will do everything to make sure it happens." Source: Setanta Boxing Damn, this was one of the most exciting HW fights of the past few years, hope they dont cancel it. More information on the injury should be made availible on the Steve Bunce Boxing Hour at 2pm, hopefully they should have Adam Booth or David Hayes lawyer on the phone or in the studio to let us know what happening.
If he is injured and cant train you cant hold that against him, hopefully wlad will accept a short postponement
Yeah...If it's a serious back injury there's no damn way I'd be postponing the fight. God knows how long it's going to take to heal, and for Haye to get in the ring with you. First, he has to heal. Second, he has to train AGAIN. Wlad might as well fight somebody else, and then maybe Haye will be healed up and ready to fight in about 4 months.... If it's serious, or *real* for that matter.
I hope so also but if the injury is that serious then how could he fight after just a short postponement?
As much as i have enjoyed Haye winding big Wlad up , if this isnt true , man that might well be too far. If Haye does have to postpone ( and indeed if Wlad agreed ) he would have to acknowledge that Wlad was doing him a big favour and lay off.
Haye wouldn't screw around with this, although I guess it says something that the mind games have made people think this could happen. Three weeks isn't serious, just reschedule and get it done. Some of the overreacting here has been impressive even by ESB standards, it's just an injury delay.
My guess is that if it is a muscle strain or similar problem then he will need be out of action for a while - to carry on training with such an injury would exacerbate the problem and do more damage, meaning he would be entering the ring on the 20th in very bad condition. If he was to go ahead with the fight on the scheduled date and just rest for 2-3 weeks it would mean that he is entering the ring for the biggest fight of his life, against the heavyweight champion of the world without having done any excercise for the last 3 weeks. This would obviously be very harsh. I do not claim to be an expert by any means but I would imagine that the final 3 weeks of your training is where you hope to reach your optimum in terms of sharpness, both mentally and physically. To expect any boxer to fight after such an interuption to their preparation is a little extreme. I would figure that they wish to have physiotherapy to eradicate the injury over the next 2-3 weeks, then Haye could finish off the last 3 weeks of his training camp injury free, although it would obvious still have been very inconveniently interupted. One thing that shocks me is the lack of objectivity on this forum. I know the General Forum is not exactly renowned as a hotbed of reason and rational thought, but christ, its like the place has been taken over by a bunch of emotionally unstable teenagers (which it more than likely has). The bottom line is - Both fighters want this fight and you can guarantee that both are devasted at the possible cancellation. I would like to hear one rational arguement as to why David Haye would pull out of this fight. Here you have a fighter who throughout his whole career has taken challenges and risks in order to get to the top. For a number of years he has stated his intention to move up from cruiser weight to become heavy weight champion of the world. Whether or not you agree with his methods, he has managed to secure a fight that could see him accomplish this goal, and now he suddenly 'bottles it'? Would it not make more sense that with the most important fight of his career coming up, against his most dangerous opponent. he wants to be in the absolute best shape he can be in? I'm sure that David Haye is devasted, and I'm sure the Wlad is too. As much as the fight may mean to us as fans, it means and infinite amount more to the fighters themselves. They're the ones putting their health, reputation and career on the line, they're the ones who know how they feel, if they're hurt etc. The way some of you kids behave on here is embarrassing. And this isn't directed solely at Wlad fans, because judging by the attitude of some people round here there would be similar scenes Wlad would have been injured. But for **** sake man, grow up. Sure it's bitterly disappointing, sure you have been looking forward to it for ages but it's a tough, physically demanding sport - and **** happens.
Wlad has to fight Povetkin before the end of October if im not mistaken. It either goes ahead on the 20th (very unlikely) or towards the end of next month. If not we may not see this fight till spring next year if we ever see it at all.
