I agree with the originial poster that booth is a great tactition but Haye does need to control himself more when he lands, been saying it for a while. He picks the opening shots perfectly then jumps all over them like a rash, hence why he hit Ruiz on the back of the head so much when Ruiz put his head down.

Booth was a good amateur himself but suffered a bad football injury when he was about to turn pro apprently and he is a former university lecturer so he's certainly not daft.

Mate, you're fighting Valuev in his backyard, and you've already seen how outboxing him, like Holyfield already did, isn't usually enough to get the decision over there. Besides, Germany as a whole is famous for giving the decision to the champion if he hasn't been KO'd or badly beaten up.

I'm not going to go back and search for articles but I'm quite sure Haye was saying he had to KO Valuev because of the German judging, so not only was he obviously aware of it, but he even publicly admitted it.

After all that, you have him fighting very passively against Valuev and the few times he tries to open up a bit (in the latter rounds when he realized that Valuev wasn't going to KO him) Booth sits there in the corner telling him not to get sloppy with his defence, saying "keep making him miss".

You don't get a decision in Germany by "making them miss", you get it by pounding the hell out of your opponent. When Haye finally landed some hard shots he had Valuev doing the chicken dance.

There was no point in waiting until Round 12 to hit the guy. At the very least he should have started pounding him around rounds 9-10, and I'm almost certain he would have got a stoppage (and what a win that would have been).

Now at the end of the day this didn't matter on the night because they got the decision (which is normal anywhere else, but pretty damn lucky in Germany), but it was a stupid strategy all the same.

A stupid strategy that won him the fight. I don't think it was ever his intention to try and KO Valuev. That was just misinformation to throw Valuev and his team off.

Technically Haye is VERY poor. I struggle to find one thing he does correctly. He is however VERY talented and gets away with ALOT. He has calmed down since his loss to Thompson. He improved so much but in his last two fights he has turned to ****. He did cut weight to make Cruiser but I think he was forced to train harder.

i think Booth is a fantastic technician,he analyses fights well and always seems to find a way to win.
As a corner man he knows his fighters and keeps them calm and confident, this is because they all respect him.
As a combination Haye and Adam are great and need each other.
Booth always knows the limitations of his boxers ,as all fighters have some!.

He knows full well that Haye has weaknesses ,which will lead to a short career. As he has said,, " perhaps four fights more"

you could say the same thing about Hatton, Calzaghe, Hammed. So many errors and in no way textbook.

how can you say he has turned to **** in his last 2 fights when he won a world title and defended it agaisnt a former 2 time champ??

I would say the same thing about Hatton, Hamed and Calzaghe. In particular, Hatton and Hamed. They had the talent but not the technique to mix with the very best. Their talent took them very far but not far enough.

With Haye, I think it stems from his stamina. He doesn't have the energy to stay technically correct nor fight in the correct way. He was muhc better against Bonin and Barrett. Now I think he has fallen quite badly out of shape because he isn't training really hard to get down to a weight.

Valuev and Ruiz are two of the worst fighters to ever be champions. They are basic in every way with absolutely no athleticism between them. Valuev seems co-ordinated and that is where their ability ends.

If Haye had stamina he should have won at least 9 rounds versus Valuev and knocked Ruiz out inside 2, max 3. His stamina undoes his technique and his lack of technique see's him make fights MUCH harder than they have to be. He is INCREDIBLY talented so that will take him very far.

Hiring Roach for a few fights isn't going to change any of that, just as hiring Floyd senior did nothing for Ricky.

Floyd Mayweather Sr is not a good technique coach. He is a good skill coach.

Roach is a good technique and skill coach. The pad work he does is far superior to what most coaches do.

You'll find someone who has been boxing as long as Haye and is as athletic as him, he should learn very quickly. He has the skill, he just doesn't have the technique. Roach will tighten him up, teach him to put his punches together, improve his balance, footwork, head movement etc
