I was always under the impression bad technique became engrained quite quickly and changing trainers doesn't really help that. He could paper over the cracks a bit but, then again, he could also take away what has made him succesful thus far.
Haye fights the way he fights for a reason, he's an aggressive counter puncher, that's his game, that's how he gets his openings. hence the low left etc... its by design. Give him a tight guard you lose the fighter
he doesn't have to change trainers at all, he just has to work with other trainers, pick things up etc.
exactly, trainers such as roach work on the pads hours everyday to make their technique second nature, look at khan, he didn't know what an uppercut was until roach another example is steward with wlad, old wlad was a little like young haye, in literally 3 fights under steward we saw a completely new fighter, wlad had changed everything from his stance to footwork. now haye doesn't need to change much, he just needs to become sharper, pick his shots and learn how to go in and out against bigger guys, against ruiz he reminded me of pacquiao the way he was going in and out like a buzzsaw, he just wasn't as polished as pacquiao.
True. I agree with you. Suddenly being critical is slagging him off and picking holes for no reason. He could have ended the fight in the first if he was more composed. He wasted countless punches against Enzo Mac and almost missed out on the stoppage by wild swinging when his man was gone. It is not some inherent flaw that cannot be changed. It is not like criticising an intangible like chin. It is a simple case of someone who needs to learn control and take a pause before he tears in. Look at Lennox Lewis against Golota. He stalked him after the first KD, looked for the gaps and picked his shots. Haye can do that no doubt at all. There is nothing that is within him that makes him rush in, it is just allowing adrenaline to take over, he can clearly work on that. But yeah, **** off to the General Forum etc.
yep exactly what i'm saying watch this from 5:35 [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrnjuQY9rek[/ame] haye hurts macca and then goes onto bumrush him with arm punches, sure it worked but there will be times when hes fighting better fighters who can recover when hurt and by that time he would have punched himself out.
It is not just an issue of punching himself out. He is leaving himself open to a lucky counter punch. Look at Hamed-Kelley in the first round or even Graham-Jackson. A man pouring in is open to a counter shot. Both Hamed and Graham in the examples I'm using were far more calm and collected than Haye was against Mac or Ruiz, and yet they were countered and dropped and stopped respectively. Haye barely landed against Mac and left himself hugely vunerable to any wild swing back that Enzo threw in desperation. It didn't happen. But against Ruiz that fight could have been wrapped up in the first and instead it was smothered and risked a DQ later in the bout, down to being wild. I cannot understand how that is not an issue to anyone who is a fan and would love to see Haye beat the best.
I honestly don't think so. The technical mistakes he is making are making his fights tough not easy. I don't go with the saying if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If it ain't broke and you can make it better then do so.
I'm not questioning Haye's style or skill. I'm questioning the technique. The way he held his left hand was out of exhaustion. If you want to fight out of shoulder roll or with a low jab, you need to have the arm slightly bent so it is ready to be shot out. Haye had his arm dangling. His legs were straight, he was falling into the ropes, he had duck feet, every shot was over extended, it was a number of things. He wasn't even the Haye who fought Fragomeni or Enzo because he was simply too tired.
Exactly. These guys are young and talented. If they really want it then they can make the change. An example of not wanting it is Jermain Taylor. Steward can scream at him to let his hands go against ****ing Cory Spinks and he won't. Haye is a learner who does want to improve, he's shown this before. Haye's style and skillset are fine. His technique is not. Just getting into better shape would help him improve his technique. However someone like Roach would work him hard on improving his technique and a by product would be improving his stamina. Haye has so much talent it just still isn't being nurtured to it's full potential.
apart from roach who else do you think would be good? Im sure Adam Booth will do something about it, Booth was the one who brought in Jorge Rubio to help Haye's defense back at cruiser.
