Maybe Or maybe Schaefer just has more clout and credibility to help drive a deal through You can't believe a lot you hear in these scenarios but I tend to think the Klitschko's are the ones doing the ****ing about in this case
Yes but Haye has probably not helped matters with his inflated ego. We all want to see this fight but getting a title shot off the back of a win over Monte Barratt is fortunate to say the least.
I thought Haye had played the situation out well, getting in their faces and getting himself this shot. Now I'm beginning to think he has made a big mistake and the Klitschko's are messing him about as revenge. And he won't get his shot until they have to give it to him... I'm pretty desperate to see this fight. That's my only concern in all this.
As someone who negotiates (very badly) for a living I did think that the overly public position that Booth and co were taking, announcing and reannouncing the fight and drip feeding details was a bit amateurish to be honest and left them in a weak position. Hopefully Schaefer can help get the deal done.
I never thought Schaefer would be a saviour. I kinda agree with Dan...Haye should take whatever he is given. A rematch should be no problem, infact its standard in this situation. A further fight with Vitali is what Haye wants regardless. He should take whatever money is on the table for this fight, because he hasn't really earnt the right in a true sense apart from his mouth. If he wins he'll be in a situation to be making demands on locations and money.
The one thing I forgot to mention, which kind of makes me understand Haye's position, is this. Apparently the rematch clause supercedes any mandatory contenders Haye may have to deal with. There's a good chance that, if he won, he'd very likely lose his IBF belt unless Povetkin could be convinced to step aside for a little longer. What would your take on this be?
Well firstly I am pretty sure as a follower of Povetkin he would step aside. That just my feeling on the situation and where Povetkin is at, and his history with Haye, especially if he looked so good in winning this. Say he didn't, is it the end of the world? I think Haye would have the respect of everybody if he came through both brothers unscathed. He would be universally recognised as the heavyweight champion, it would simply be a matter of addressing the formalities as far as fighting for the IBF title. I think Haye is fairly lucky to be in a position where he's fighting Wlad already, the prospect of being THE heavyweight champion within only 4 fights is not a bad one considering how fractured the division has been in recent years..and quite frankly...how Haye has done very little to get himself in this position.
I'm not convinced. Wlad is the universally recognised number one, but he's not linear. I could just see his achievement being undermined by the media who still see the belts as important. I don't want to get into the whole belts thing (again) but I feel the only way to establish lineage is one of two ways. WBC/WBA/IBF unification. After it's established stripping wouldn't matter. That, or Haye fighting Vitali after he's beaten Wlad. The winner to gain recognition as champ.
