McLarnin was after most of the guys mentioned, I am of course aware of those fighters rootS, Nonpariel Jack Dempsey is another one. Britain has Driscoll, Lynch, Lewis, Berg, Ted 'Kid' Lewis, I don't count Fitz as he never represented Britain he considered himself from NZ/Oz and was an American citizen upon his crowning achievment. I mean, post-McLarnin, McGuigan had a great win but was not great, Collins bloody good but not great, McCullough one of the ATG chinned fighters but little else.....I really thought Andy Lee would go on to big things but post-Vera he's just got more and more uninspiring. Shame that. I wasn't trying to slag Irish boxing off, I have lots of Irish friends and no disdain towards the place at all....I was just stumped at that particular time. Despite the fractured titling system a 'great' fighter can sill be produced nowadays; it just requires braver promoters.
To be fair its a small place with relatively little interest in boxing compared to the major sports. They've had plenty with Irish roots that have been ATG's, perhaps not many actually based out of Ireland. If Britain was 6 million we'd probably be struggling to name many genuine ATG's as well. We'd have to cut our list by 10 times and we'd probably be counting on a few fingers if you think of it in that way. They've probably been as successful as Britain overall. If you're gonna split it down Wales is probably p4p the best.
