The scary thing is, Juan was not tested in his last two fights, but they were against quality opposition. That is why I have him in my P4P list. That said, he is young and has never ever tasted the power that Vasquez will bring to the table.
One of my main reasons for starting this thread is to talk about fighters i feel dont get the Limelight as say other ordinary fighters do. Not saying Izzy gets no love just i feel he should be more talked about than say other fighters. Like Pavlik.
Thats it. I felt Ponce De Leon was no joke for a fighter of Juanma's youth but look what happened. BANG. Im not saying i would favour Juanma but because Izzy has been in 3 wars he may either struggle or if the fight went longer his stamina might out shine Lopez who really hasnt been tested late in fights.
Lower-weight fighters who are not named Manny Pacquiao do not get the credit they deserve, half of the time. Vasquez is no exception.
I think I would probably favor Juan Manuel Lopez very slightly, for the very reasons that you touch upon. Vasquez is coming off three excruciating tough fights with Rafael Marquez, and it is hard for me to believe that he is not some way affected as of a result. That said, we don't even know if Lopez can take a good shot yet, or how he would deal with a seasoned fighter with really good skills. Ponce may have been a belt holder, but he was totally outclassed as far as I'm concerned against Gerry. He won that fight on work rate, most of which was hitting air anyhow. Vasquez is a whole different story.
Im sick of it too, but Pavlik has a fight coming up this weekend so im letting it pass for now. Vazquez has been one of my favorites for a long time now and it does disturb me how little attention and respect his career has been getting. I remember when people said Izzy cant box because of the Gonzalez fight , has a weak chin and called him a quitter for the first Rafa fight. Only I and a very few others picked him to win the rematch and it was redemption at its finest. For me Israel has nothing else to prove, he can retire now and there will be no questions asked but of course his haters will say something stupid like hes ducking JML.
With a chin like Izzy's he wouldnt duck anyone. I think his chin is granite. After the Marquez wars he took some shots and kept coming.
The best fighters in the world are small, and that has always been the case as far as I'm concerned. I only like this sport because of fighters like Barrera, Morales, Mijares, Marquez, and all of the 5'6 fighters who get by on their ability, not simply on punching power.
Vazquez got dropped a few times against Jhonny and against Larios, so of course youll get these ******ed so called chin-experts crying he has a glass jaw after those fights.
Izzy is only lost twice in the last 10 years with a loss to Larios and the RTD to Marquez. That is some serious talent. With wins against Marquez,Larios,Gonzalez,Hernandez and Julio. Has had 10 world title fights Winning 8 times,6 stoppage with the 2 losses.
Very consistent fighter. Showed serious heart in every single round 3 of all three fights. All excellent rounds, and all showcases of the heart of Professional fighters. I mean really talented ones, not like Kermit Cintron.
Great post. I too feel that Vazquez deserves to be recognized presently as the most dominant bantam fighter. This guy has mad skills, great power, tremendous chin, and a great resume to prove it. Hopefully he still has it in him to give us one more great fight with JML even though hes given us more than enough.
