Hi, I'll be coming to Boston, MA for 6 months in September. I have been training in Poland for some time now (I have not competed though) and I know how hard it is to find a decent gym, one that would be REALLY about boxing and not just getting fit on a punchbag. From the looks of it there are dozens of gyms in Boston, but most of them look a bit like fitness centers. My question is the following: would any of you know if there was such a gym in Boston? Peter Welch's Gym, The Ring and such look great, but I am afraid that if I were not a contender, they would throwme in with businessman who just want to work out like boxers do (there's nothing wrong with it, just not what I'm looking for) and I'd end up punching bags and doing millions of pushups without doing any sparring (I've been sparring with contenders and pros in my hometown)? Thanks a lot rudeboy_J
Thank you! It would be great to go there. And maybe I will, depending on my schedule. After all it's not that far from B., 30miles away. Still, if anyone should have any information of a gym nearer Boston, I'd appreciate it.
Boston Boxing. There are all kinds of members there. Everyone from people just looking for the boxers workout to pro. There are quite a few competitive boxers that spar regularly there. www.bostonboxing.com
Thanks; I looked it up earlier, but the name ("Boxing AND FITNESS") made me think it's one of these fake boxing clubs. What are the fees there (the site gives you only single entrance fees and a promotional fee, which will be off when I'll be there)? Have you got an opinion on Peter Welch's or the Ring? Once again - thanks a lot!
No idea about Peter Welch's. I went to see "The Ring" when they first opened but I was not interested. I can tell you that Boston Boxing is not a fake Boxing gym. The "fitness" part of the name is to appeal to a broader demographic that may want the boxers workout without the sparring. As I said earlier there are competitive amateur boxers there who are training for the Marciano tournament and the Golden Gloves. Your best bet is to call them and ask about pricing and sparring.
There are all types of associates there. Everyone from individuals just looking for the fighters exercise to pro. There are quite a few aggressive fighters that free consistently there.
