Old Bos knocked out the unbeaten Israeli in two rounds back in August. Anybody see the fight? Looks like it was on regional TV at least. I remember Roman was touted as a possible noisemaker, and the one or two times I saw him he looked like a work in progress but decent enough; and I wouldn't have pegged him getting blown out by a forty year old with a penchant for three year layoffs. Did he just make a mistake and get caught? How bad is his chin? Can he get back to near the top of the division?
He was never near the top of the division. His progress stalled a LONG time ago. He was never going to make it anywhere - I think his management knew that in the end. It was kind of one of those "sink or swim" fights. He sank.
Boswell is a local Heavyweight here in Atlanta. He has had bad luck with injuries the last 5 years and has been somewhat inactive because of this. He is not a bad fighter. Remember it was Boswell who was supposed to fight Vitali Klitschko on the Lewis/Johnson undercard before Kirk Johnson pulled out with an injury. Boswell also was up on McCline 8 rounds to 1 on McCline before he gassed out and was stopped in the last round. He thinks he might be able to get a title shot in 2009 he holds some regional title that is supposed to be tied to the IBF.
Greenberg was never a good contender, lackes speed, precision and heart. Boswell is a gatekeeper for the top 25, so consider Greenberg done.
Well it's a solid win over a young unbeaten prospect, even if Roman was exposed as not quite being the goods. Good for him, and hopefully he can start building something productive off of it. If a pushing-50 Holyfield can get back-to-back title cracks after a 4-3 run over six years it's only fair that a forty year old with stopping power and only one loss should be able to capitalize on his own success. :good
Greenberg pisses me right off, he looks good at times, but cant seem to be arsed, his old trainer used to be always screaming at him to do something hehe every fight i saw of him, guy must have had a heart attack since poor sod, sad to see a guy with talent waste it, im not saying he would have been the best fighter ever, but with some heart im sure he would have done all right
Nah thats way to harsh hes only what ? about 26 or so, if he can change a lot of the basic problems he has he can come again, he never seems to show much interest to me. im not to sure if even likes boxing as it does not look like it when ive seen him. Any way writing of some one so young is silly, look at rahman this weekend, he is a great example of someone who is getting another chance so late in his career, and someone should smack greenberg round the chops and say to him "ffs mate if you really go for it you could get a shot at the world title" as we all know top heavy these days are a little bit thin on the ground, sadly im not sure he will do it, but i'll give him another chance
The Greenberg vs Julius Francis bout is still one of the worst pro boxing 'fights' I have ever seen in my life. That kinda thing really sours you to a fighter, and I remained resolutely unimpressed at Roman's progress. He needs major changes to succeed, like a rocket up his ass for starters.
I remember thinking he would have mopped up Mesi or Fields. Still could be the case. :yep Is my head full of fuzz or do I recall there at one point being mention of him possibly being set up for a showdown with one of them? Or Tua maybe? :huh
