Boswell TKOs Greenburg in 2nd! By Matt Amato and Jose Santiago at Ringside Heavyweight Cedric Boswell stopped hot prospect Roman Greenberg in the second round Friday at the Center Stage in Atlanta, Georgia. Boswell captured the IBF North American title and revived his sluggish career with the stunning victory. After a careful first round both fighters came out more aggressively in the second. Working behind his jab, Boswell landed a hard right hand that forced Greenburg to backpedal into the ropes. Boswell immediately jumped on Greenburg with a flurry of punches. Greenburg put his hands up in front of his face but Boswell penetrated his guard with a sneaky left hook followed by two thunderous right hands. Greenburg (27-1, 18 KOs) was virtually out on his feet when referee Bill Clancy stopped the contest at 2:05 of the second round. Boswell (28-1, 21 KOs), whose only loss is a tenth round TKO to Jameel McCline (Oct 2003), hopes the new belt will propel him into title reckoning. It should put me back into the top ten and maybe a shot at the title, stated the jubilant fighter to FightNews.
Why so funny? Roman trains at my gym and is a genuinely nice geezer. This was always going to be a step right up in class, boswell is no mug at all. Why do we feel the need to laugh when a prospect gets stopped? Have you seen it? Are you laughing because being stopped by a heavy with 21 ko's is embarrassing? Better fighters than Roman have lost before and will again. He can come back from this and still mix in the top ten....
I think everyone doubted Greenberg would do anything great in his career but to hear that he lost is nothing to cheer about. Greenberg is a good bloke and not a bad fighter. Boswell has got his career back on track.
May be he is. I dont know the guy. But the facts remain his been protected for soooo long. There was audacious talk of him being a world class. He clearly is not. He was steered on that route for a reason so lets not kid ourselves here. As soon as he actually stepped into any class of any sort most believed Greenberg would get stopped. Im just glad the hype was firmly put to rest. I call it poetic justice!
I really didn't get this fight. Roman fights 27 times and then makes quite a big step up all of a sudden to fight Boswell :?:huh From Colin Kenna then straight to Boswell? I'm not saying Boswell is great but Roman fought 27 times against pretty poor quality opposition and then chooses Boswell.
I guess he should've been fighting better opposition in those first 27 fights. Learning how fight aggressively would've been a good idea too, rather than coasting around jabbing.
Stuey, my first reaction to the thread title was to laugh. Its nothing against the fighter personally but I think a lot of people could see this coming and knew it was just a matter of time. There have a been a few threads on Greenburg on the Brit from people asking how far he could go and how good he was and, while most peoples opinion was that he'll get KO'd as soon as he made any move up in class, some people did actually think he could make an impact a world level.
Who was the ****** who said Greenberg would be the first billion dollar Heavyweight? Was It Waterman?
I've got nothing against Greenberg personally, but he has been so overprotected and in 27 fights has made little or no impact on the world stage. Boswell is no mug at all so these posts will be full of people saying what they have been saying for ages. I told you so. Step him up in class and he'll get a tuning.
I forgot about Boswell, but remember he was being talked up a lot before McCline stopped him (I think he was leading at the time). He's probably good enough to hang with the top 10 heavies and beat some. I see he beat Tyson clone Cliff Couser last month as for Greenberg.....who really thought he was world class? surely not.
Stuey mate, I can see your point but obviously as you know him it makes it different for you. The fact is Greenberg was being hyped YEARS ago. And then more hype started from nowhere last year...I had actually forgotten about him, he was being talked up 5 years back. It seems a lifetime ago. And he has been horribly protected. I guess people are just glad to see him actually fight someone with a pulse and the stupid overrating of him finally stop.
I always said he is overrated. I never expected him to go anywhere. His game needed serious work and he never did it, yet got praise.
Not sure if this story is correct but did'nt Jim Watt get fired by Eurosport for saying Greenberg was pants during one of Roman's fights?
