Were set up by the jab. The first one was a jab to the stomach, which lowered Floyd's guard and kept him from seeing the big right over the top. The second time was just a normal jab to the head followed by a crushing right that buckled Floyd's knees. (Also notice how Mosley was jabbing a LOT to the stomach in the first round, and if I remember right, he landed it nearly every time. It also served to set up that later 1-2 in the latter round, because Floyd wasn't expecting a punch to come after it.) This is why I'm not sure about Pac's chances -- I can't ever remember seeing impressive jabbing from him. Maybe he has the sheer speed, timing and offensive skills to do without it for the most part, but against someone like Floyd, I'm not sure if that would be enough. I'd still love to see them fight. I have to say, though...credit to Floyd. He took those big shots (the second, in particular, was a monster) and he didn't get on his bike. He stood his ground and tried to ride the wave. Even later, HE was the one coming forward rather than skipping around pot-shotting, as I expected. Shane is obviously old and past his prime, but he's still pretty damn dangerous. Just a shame he gassed so early. For the people watching the HBO show...what was the commentary like? I would have loved to hear what Merchant and the crew were saying during round 2.
Merchant said that he didn't think Floyd was really hurt but Emanuel and Jim thought that he was. Larry Merchant seemed almost pissed with Mosley toward the end of the fight and i thought his post fight interview was pretty harsh...
Again I am still not a Mayweather fan at all but he made me a believer last night and I have nothing else bad to say about him. His skills are prob one of the best I have seen in this era. I can only compare honestly a prime Roy Jones who to me head and shoulders is still a better all around offensive monster and as far as his defense he really had none but his reflexes will never be emulated again. That performance yesterday was good but I still think Roy in a whole, especially when he got his first loss took his game up to another level. I'm goin on but to the OP, he got caught by 2 shots early but adjusted like 2 rds later. So to me them 2 shots were a memory compared to rds 8 on. Hats off to the dude, he gets my respect and I promised I will never say nothing neg about the dude again.
I'm glad we got to see what he is really made of last night, he took them shots very well, and I would have never thought it would have been Mosley on the back foot for most parts of the fight.
Pac's jab isn't the sticking sort.I wouldn't put it below Mosley's though.Everytime Floyd fights,I'm sure Freddie is studying another way that he adjusts. After 41 fights,Freddie has to have several plans worked out.Naazim did too but they weren't taking with Shane. The fight is still intriguing to me because there's so many ****ing intangibles but I still can't decide if it's been dragged out on purpose to hype it up by all parties or if they're really being 2 spoiled, egomaniacal drama queens.
Roger Mayweather, Mayweathers Trainer: Mosley has very fast hands, but he doesnt have a jab. He had tremendous hand speed, but it means nothing if you cant hit the target. Youve got to be able to hit the target. Mosley is fast if he fights somebody slow, but its different if its somebody faster .He (Mayweather) boxed his ass off, and the fight wasnt even close.
