Both of them are in headed into (somewhat) lose-lose situations...

...Pacquiao and Mayweather, that is. They shouldn't be fighting anyone else but each other, bottom line.

Mayweather won't get full credit if he beats Mosley. No way, no how. People will shrug and say he beat an old version of Shane, or that Shane was rusty from such a long layoff...the name on Floyd's resume will look good, no doubt, but unless he wins in incredible fashion, the win wouldn't do a whole lot for his legacy in the minds of boxing faithful. Mosley, despite his age or whatever, is still probably the most dangerous opponent Floyd has ever faced up to this point - it might even be safe to say "by far".

Clottey is definitely high-risk, low-reward for Pacquiao. Big time. This is a fight that Pacquiao doesn't need to lose. Losing this fight would do some serious damage to his legacy, but this is a fight he very well could lose. He will be outweighed by 20-25 pounds come fight night, by a guy that is bigger, stronger, and has a much better chin than the last guy he fought. My money is still on Pac, but Clottey seems like an unnecessary risk to me.

With that said, if they both win in spectacular fashion, just imagine how big Pacquiao-Mayweather (fingers crossed) will be!

I think fighting a fighter like Clottey who can throw any punch in the book with great technique is a good way for Pac to get away from the left hand dominant fighters he's been fighting in his last 3 fights and closer to a versatile fighter like Floyd.

Fighting a guy like Shane is a good step up in class at WW for Floyd if he wants to get ready for a beast like Pac.

If they fight in the fall both guys will be better prepared than they would've been in March. Especially Pac who was just coming off a fight against Cotto.

Both Mayweather and Pacquiao are fighting good opponents. Mayweather vs. Mosley is the better fight, but both should be interesting. Let the winners AND the losers meet.

I disagree with you on the point that Mayweather won't get any credit for beating Mosley because of Mosley's age...I understand your argument, and I'm sure SOME boxing fans will feel that way, but for the most part I believe he'll earn a tremendous amount of respect from both casual and hardcore boxing fans if he beats Mosley.

In my opinion, Mosley's age has not shown in his last few fights. He barely lost to Cotto in a high-powered slugfest, then came back and KO'd Ricardo Mayorga (not very impressive) and the "unstoppable" Antonio Margarito. He looks as fast and strong as ever in my opinion, and from my seat Floyd will absolutely get full credit if he can pull of the win against Sugar.

HOWEVER, I do agree that these are very HIGH RISK situations for both Mayweather and Pacquiao - they're taking a huge gamble. If either one loses, the super fight is potentially gone. On the flip side, if they BOTH WIN...imagine the build up for that one!

Mosley is a high risk fight and has shown himself to still be a formidable opponent. The usual crybabies will, of course, still cry after the fight about how Floyd should have fought Mosley sooner despite the fact that Mosley declined... but that has to be allowed for. Aside from that, Floyd SHOULD get credit for the fight, win or lose.

Isn't it sad that 39 year old year and a half inactive Mosley is the toughest fight Mayweather has taken, possibly in his entire career?

mayweather would have had to fight mosley in 2002 no later to get his credit.you know damn well if mayweather wins, mosley looked old that, he was 38 and this that and the other.but he just whooped margarito ass right.Larry merchant said "that man can fight" he steps in with pbf then hes old.:yep you should be use to that by now.mayweather gets all the glory if he beats shane this time and any other time.

if its a struggle, them prime mosley will kill.well you know what mayweather will be 33 he's not in his mid 20's anymore either.5 yr difference, it would have been better if mayweather was 25 and mosley was 30 but it dont matter.people know how mosley fights, he will be ready for war and want get old over night, he still might get beat though but not old over night.

fight has to happen so mayweather haters cant say mayweather ducked him.**** the age.they will always have something to ***** about.

if aint the size of the fighter, the age, the weight, the place, the time, the ring i mean damn i could keep going but i think you get the point.

i know boxing so if manny gets passed clottey thats biggest win of his career, ok on paper its oscar but in boxing clottey is ****ing big ass monster.manny will impress me if he could win that fight.i dont think he can but i been wrong before.yo **** what the haters have to say.

Pacquiao losing to Clottey, the way it will get told, will be one of the biggest blunders in the history of boxing. If it happens. Even if Pacquiao wins he could either (A; look bad in doing so, or worse yet (B; get badly banged up in doing so. Clottey can do damage. He hurt Margarito with a single perfectly timed counter uppercut and marked up Judah and Cotto real good. He hurt those kids. They felt it. Team Pacquiao thinks they're invincible at this point. Who likes that? If Clottey kicks his ass or does any of the above I'll shrug. This was NOT a good move. Clottey will put miles on ya. No need for him.

Beating Clottey does not help Pacman much, but if Mayweather beats Mosley that is a huge accomplishment. Beating a great fighter who is a champion? Not a waste for Mayweather at all. If he gets in shape and is confident and outboxes Shane he will get credit for the win.

Team Pac dont see it that way. What they see is what I see. Clottey isnt active enough, thier are thinking that Pac will be able to jump in and out the way he did vs Oscar and Cotto. I dont know if that will work or not, but that is what they are thinking, I would bet the house.

PS Floyd wont get credit for beatting Pac either from 50% of the clowns that post here.
